Spain tightens rules for tourists

Some areas in Spain like Barcelona and Mallorca are imposing rules that would change the way tourists could enjoy their vacation. Some local council can now impose fines on tourists for wearing beach wears on the seafront promenade. Restrictions on drinking and partying are also going to be implemented. Previously complaints regarding disrespect for the local culture have irritated.  

The number of cities and towns tightening up rules is increasing. These rules would be imposed fully in the post-pandemic era. The updated rules control the dress code, alcohol drinking and using public places for personal uses.

Using the outdoor space of Vigo as a lavatory is counted as an offence and an amount of £650 will be imposed. Javea in Alicante has absolutely banned smoking on any beach. All of these are part of Spain’s attempts for a clearer atmosphere. Barcelona in particular has taken an initiative to improve environmental protection.  

People will be fined up to £250 in restaurants if they violate rules. Many restaurants are not allowing people who come shirtless, wear objectionable costumes or even gold chains. These are offences and clubbed under the term ‘drunken tourism’.

The restaurants have further tightened up the alcohol consumption timings. Restaurants in Playa de Palma, Magaluf and San Antonio have imposed rules where alcohol consumption is only allowed during meal times. A maximum of six alcoholic drinks would be served per person and these will be served during lunch and dinner times.

‘Off-licence’ alcohol selling between 9:30 pm to 8 am is also illegal.
