Delaware Takes Flight as Georgetown Wings and Wheels Unleashes Warbirds Cars and America 250

Georgetown in Delaware is preparing for a major autumn weekend as the Wings and Wheels Festival returns on 2 and 3 October 2026. The event will take place at Delaware Coastal Airport. It will bring vintage aircraft, military history, classic cars, live music, food and family activities to Sussex County.

The main public festival will be held on Saturday, 3 October, from 10am to 4pm. It will be free to enter. The 17th annual event will offer visitors a chance to see the airport in a new way. It will turn the flight line into a lively festival space where planes and cars share the spotlight.

This year’s theme is America 250. The programme will honour service, sacrifice and freedom. The theme gives the event extra meaning as the United States moves towards its 250th anniversary. It also creates a strong link between local aviation, military heritage and family travel.

Historic Warbirds Will Lead the Festival

Aircraft will be the centrepiece of Wings and Wheels. Visitors will be able to get close to historic planes and learn about the people who flew, built and maintained them.

The Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation will bring several aircraft to the festival. They include the North American B-25J Panchito, North American L-17A Navion, Cessna L-19, Aeronca L-16, De Havilland Tiger Moth and De Havilland Chipmunk.

The B-25J Panchito will be one of the biggest attractions. The B-25 Mitchell played an important role during the Second World War. It is linked with the Doolittle Raid and remains one of the best-known aircraft of its time. The aircraft gives visitors a close look at a major part of American aviation history.

Friday Will Start With Learning and Celebration

The festival weekend will begin on Friday, 2 October. Aviation Career Day will welcome invited local high-school students to Delaware Coastal Airport. The programme will introduce them to possible roles in aviation. It will not be open to the public.

Friday evening will feature a ticketed Dinner Show from 6pm to 10pm. It will include catered food, live entertainment, a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. The event will help raise funds for the Pathways to Aviation programme.

The Dinner Show will give visitors another reason to stay overnight in Georgetown or nearby Sussex County. It will also help create a two-day festival atmosphere before the main public event begins on Saturday.

Family Activities Will Complete the Experience

Saturday’s festival will include food trucks, vendors, children’s activities and live entertainment. Local southern classic-rock group Flipside is scheduled to perform at noon.

Wings and Wheels will also support a toy drive for Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington. Visitors and car-show participants can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the event. This adds a community purpose to the festival weekend.

Visitors Should Plan Their Journey Early

Public parking will not be available at the airport during the main festival. Visitors will need to use off-site parking options.

Parking will be available at Sussex Academy on Airport Road and at the Sussex County Family Court parking garage on East Pine Street. Parking will cost US$5 per vehicle and payment will be cash only. Shuttle services will begin at 9.30am.
