Kempinski Hotels has presented a new take on luxury travel with E.R.A.s (Experience Real Access) at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich. Guests are now able to interact with Munich’s idiosyncratic culture and history and enjoy a variety of customized experiential travel packages. Kempinski launched E.R.A.s in August 2026 to provide guests with services and experiences that redefine conventional travel. The goal of E.R.A.s is to provide guests with a direct line to the existing ‘insiders’ of the city and connect them to local heritage and artisans. Rather than providing well-known and overbooked tourist activities, E.R.A.s will provide guests with personalized trips and unique travel experiences.
The E.R.A.s concept is a break from the traditional hotel model to offer travelers access to Munich through unique and personal trips. E.R.A.s was created by Kempinski in response to the market demand for more authentic and experiential luxury travel.

The E.R.A.s concept introduces a new approach where luxury hospitality is built around access, storytelling and personal connections. Each experience is designed as a thematic journey linked to Munich’s cultural heritage and brought to life by local specialists. At the centre of the programme is the newly created role of the Resident Curator. This position is responsible for developing exclusive experiences by connecting guests with local figures who have deep knowledge of the city’s history, traditions and creative industries.
The Resident Curator concept reflects Kempinski’s long-standing focus on personalised service. The company has connected the role with its historical approach to creating tailored guest experiences, bringing destination expertise directly into the hotel journey. Through E.R.A.s, guests are offered opportunities to explore Munich through private access rather than traditional tours. The programme focuses on meaningful encounters with people, places and stories that represent the character of the city.

One of the first experiences introduced under the programme is the Royalty Era, which explores Bavaria’s royal legacy and the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty. The dynasty ruled Bavaria for more than seven centuries and remains closely connected with the region’s cultural identity. The experience includes a private helicopter journey over five royal castles in Bavaria accompanied by historians specialising in the Wittelsbach family. Guests can also participate in exclusive visits connected with royal heritage sites.
The programme includes a specially arranged dining experience at Nymphenburg Palace, inspired by Bavarian royal traditions. Private musical performances and historical storytelling are incorporated to create a deeper connection with the destination’s past. Through this experience, Munich’s royal history is presented not simply as a sightseeing attraction but as a living cultural narrative supported by expert knowledge and personal interpretation.
The second E.R.A. theme, the Craftsmanship Era, focuses on Munich’s long tradition of creativity, design and skilled production. It provides access to local artisans and heritage brands that represent Bavaria’s craftsmanship culture. Guests can participate in a private porcelain painting masterclass at Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg, a historic manufacturer known for handcrafted porcelain production since the 18th century. The experience allows visitors to understand the skills and techniques behind traditional Bavarian craftsmanship.
The programme also features a curated tasting of Munich’s major beer varieties with specialist guidance, highlighting the city’s globally recognised brewing heritage. Another element focuses on BMW’s historic connection with Munich. Travellers receive access to BMW Classic facilities and learn about the company’s automotive heritage through a specialised experience connected with the brand’s origins. These experiences combine culture, industry and local traditions, creating a broader understanding of Munich beyond its famous landmarks.

The third experience category, the Regenerative Era, introduces wellness-focused activities designed around physical renewal, outdoor exploration and personal wellbeing. The programme includes guided cold-water experiences connected with Munich’s natural surroundings and outdoor activities designed to provide a combination of adventure and relaxation.
Luxury travellers can also participate in sporting experiences linked with prominent figures, including opportunities connected with football heritage and outdoor fitness activities. The introduction of this category reflects the wider transformation of luxury tourism, where wellness, nature and active experiences are becoming increasingly important parts of premium travel.
Following the Munich launch, Kempinski plans to expand the E.R.A.s concept across its international portfolio. The company intends to introduce Resident Curators and destination-based experiences at additional properties worldwide. Augustine Hotel Prague is expected to become one of the next properties to introduce the concept following its acquisition by Kempinski.
The expansion reflects a wider shift within luxury hospitality, where hotels are competing not only through rooms, facilities and services but also through exclusive destination experiences. By creating direct connections between travellers and local communities, Kempinski aims to strengthen the relationship between hotels and destinations while offering guests more personalised journeys.
The opening of the E.R.A.s brings more opportunities to Munich’s growing position as a luxury and cultural European tourism hub. Its capitals and population’s history, design, and modern lifestyle, makes for great experiential travel. For the hospitality industry, Kempinski’s E.R.A.s is a great indication of tourism in relation to experiences. As customers get more used to luxurious travel, they are more interested in rare experiences, and real-life stories that can’t easily be repeated.
With E.R.A.s, Kempinski is attempting to own the lodging aspect of traveling and merge it with culture, heritage, and exclusive access to local destinations. The Munich launch is the first of many attempts to shift the strategy on how luxury hotels determine their clientele and the experiences they are able to provide in the global travel market.
