The first major milestone came with the opening of the 11-kilometre Birlanagar-Rayaru section in May 2023. This was followed by the 22-kilometre Rayaru-Sumaoli section in August 2023. The 14-kilometre Sumaoli-Joura stretch became operational in November 2023, while the 14-kilometre Joura-Kailaras section was opened in February 2024.

The project continued moving forward with the opening of the 29-kilometre Kailaras-Sabalgarh section in 2025 and the 27-kilometre Sabalgarh-Birpur section in 2026.

The remaining sections connecting Birpur with Seroni Road and Seroni Road with Sheopur Kalan are close to completion. Once the full corridor becomes operational, it will create a direct rail connection between Gwalior and Sheopur Kalan.

The planned future extension towards Kota will further strengthen links between the Gwalior-Chambal region and important economic and educational centres.
