Air India Unleashes Blockbuster Canada Travel Upgrade by Removing Vienna Fuel Stop and Bringing Boeing 787-9 Luxury to Delhi Toronto Flights

A major improvement in Air India Delhi Toronto flights will be introduced from 1 August 2026, when the existing enroute fuel stop at Vienna is removed and a brand-new Boeing 787-9 is deployed. Through this upgrade, non-stop India Canada travel will be made faster, while a newly designed three-class cabin and Premium Economy will be offered on the route for the first time.
Delhi to Toronto Journey to Be Shortened Significantly
Travelling between Delhi and Toronto has often required a substantial commitment of time, particularly when an intermediate operational stop has been included. From 1 August 2026, that experience will be changed through the removal of the Vienna fuel stop.

Under the revised operation, the Delhi-to-Toronto service will be conducted non-stop. The flying time will be lowered from about 20 hours, including the fuel stop, to approximately 17 hours. Nearly three hours could therefore be removed from the overall journey.
The Toronto-to-Delhi service will continue to be operated non-stop. A flying time of up to 16 hours has been indicated for the return journey. As a result, a more consistent non-stop experience will be provided in both directions.

For passengers, the greatest advantage will be found in the reduction of travel interruption. An aircraft landing required only for refuelling can add time and complexity to an already lengthy journey. By removing that stop, a more direct experience will be provided, and the inconvenience associated with an additional landing and departure will be avoided.
Nevertheless, the planned change has been made dependent on available airspace. Operational conditions could therefore continue to influence routing and journey duration.

Daily Flights to Be Restored from August
Alongside the aircraft and routing upgrade, the frequency of the Delhi-Toronto service will be restored to seven flights per week. Daily operations will be provided from 1 August 2026, replacing the current schedule of five weekly flights.
The frequency had been temporarily reduced during June and July 2026. That adjustment had been attributed to unprecedented increases in fuel prices and broader geopolitical developments affecting flight operating conditions.

Through the restoration of daily services, greater flexibility will be provided to travellers. Additional choice will be made available for departure planning, connecting journeys and return arrangements. The improvement could be particularly useful for passengers travelling for family visits, education, business and tourism.
Toronto has long been treated as an important international gateway within the Air India network. Canada is also served by one of the largest Indian diaspora communities in the world. The route is therefore used by travellers with a wide variety of personal, professional and leisure requirements.
The reinstatement of daily flights will allow travel plans to be arranged across every day of the week. Longer gaps between available departures will be reduced, and more convenient itinerary combinations will be made possible.
Brand-New Boeing 787-9 to Transform the Cabin Experience
The service will be operated with a brand-new, line-fit Boeing 787-9 that has been purpose-built for Air India. The latest premium onboard product will consequently be introduced in Canada for the first time.

A three-class configuration will be provided. The aircraft will contain 30 private Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy Class seats. Contemporary design, modern technology and Indian-inspired aesthetics have been incorporated throughout the interiors.
A significant change will be represented by the introduction of Premium Economy. This cabin has not previously been offered by Air India on the Delhi-Toronto route. An additional option will therefore be made available between Business Class and Economy Class.
For travellers undertaking an ultra-long-haul flight, the presence of three cabin categories will provide greater freedom over comfort levels and travel budgets. A premium experience will be accessible without a Business Class booking being required, while established Economy Class and Business Class choices will continue to be offered.
Private Business Class Suites to Offer Fully Flat Beds
In Business Class, 30 private suites will be provided. Direct aisle access will be offered from every suite, allowing passengers to move through the cabin without another traveller being disturbed.
A 79-inch fully flat bed will be available in each suite. Rest and privacy will consequently be prioritised during the lengthy journey between India and Canada.
Wireless charging and generous personal storage will also be included. Entertainment will be displayed on a 17-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen. These features have been designed to support both relaxation and personal convenience during ultra-long-haul travel.

The direct aisle arrangement will be especially valuable on a flight lasting up to 17 hours. Greater independence will be provided when meals are being served, cabin lighting has been lowered or other passengers are sleeping.
Through the private-suite format, the premium cabin experience will be repositioned around personal space, technology and uninterrupted rest.
Premium Economy to Be Introduced for the First Time
A dedicated Premium Economy cabin will be introduced on the Delhi-Toronto route. Its 28 seats will be arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration.
The seats will be made wider than those provided in Economy Class. A 38-inch pitch will be offered, creating additional legroom. Generous recline, adjustable headrests and adjustable leg and calf rests will also be provided.
This addition will widen the choices available to travellers who are required to remain aboard the aircraft for an extended period. Extra space can carry considerable importance on an ultra-long-haul journey, particularly when sleep, movement and physical comfort are being considered.
Premium Economy will therefore be positioned as a practical middle option rather than simply an upgraded seat. Greater separation from the main cabin, dedicated service and enhanced seating features will be combined within the new product.

Economy Class to Receive Technology and Comfort Upgrades
The Economy Class cabin will contain 238 seats. Ergonomically designed seating will be installed with long-haul travel in mind.
An 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen will be made available at every seat. Personal electronic device holders will also be thoughtfully integrated into the seating area.
Bluetooth audio connectivity will be supported, allowing compatible personal listening devices to be used. USB-A and USB-C charging ports will be installed, while AC power outlets will also be provided.
These additions will allow personal devices to be kept charged throughout the journey. For a flight lasting between 16 and 17 hours, access to entertainment, charging and connectivity features can form an important part of the overall passenger experience.
Indian-Inspired Details to Be Carried Across the Aircraft
New mood lighting inspired by ancient Indian wellness traditions will be introduced throughout the cabins. Through this lighting, a calmer onboard environment is intended to be created during different stages of the flight.
The food and service presentation will also be refreshed. Curated menus featuring Indian and international flavours will be provided. Premium chinaware, glassware and tableware will be used as part of the updated dining experience.

Plush bedding and redesigned amenity kits will also be supplied. These elements will be combined with other signature details to create a more refined and consistent onboard product.
The emphasis will not be placed on seating alone. Entertainment, meals, rest, lighting and personal amenities will all be incorporated into the redesigned experience. A clearer sense of Indian hospitality will also be reflected through the aircraft interiors and service details.
India Canada Travel to Receive a Faster Premium Link
The removal of the Vienna fuel stop will represent more than a technical change to the route. A shorter, uninterrupted journey will be delivered, daily capacity will be restored and an entirely new cabin product will be introduced simultaneously.
Passengers will be offered a wider selection of travel experiences through Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class. Considerable improvements will be provided through private suites, fully flat beds, modern entertainment screens, enhanced seating and refreshed onboard service.
The deployment will also form part of Air India’s broader fleet transformation. The Air India Group, comprising Air India and Air India Express, operates more than 300 aircraft and serves 60 domestic and 51 international destinations across five continents. Orders for 600 new aircraft have been placed, while legacy aircraft are progressively being retrofitted.
For Delhi-Toronto passengers, however, the immediate impact will be straightforward. Less time will be spent travelling, the Vienna fuel stop will be removed when airspace permits, daily service will be restored, and Air India’s latest long-haul interiors will be brought to Canada.
