Air India Unites with Standard Chartered to Launch Travel and Wealth Partnership for Global Indians

Air India and Standard Chartered have partnered in a deal involving the provision of premium airline loyalty rewards along with international banking and wealth management services to Global Indians with international business and personal interests. The deal was announced on 21 October 2026 and involves the partnership between the Maharaja Club Loyalty Program of Air India and the international banking network of Standard Chartered Bank. The offer is intended to target eligible high-net-worth individuals based in Singapore and the UAE, in addition to providing the clients with travel benefits, along with the provision of financial services suited to their international needs. The program is anticipated to launch shortly. Under this deal, eligible clients of Standard Chartered Bank will be given Air India Maharaja Club Gold or Silver status, while eligible clients of Air India will be able to use the international banking and wealth management facilities offered by Standard Chartered. The partnership reflects a more strategic approach to dealing with premium customers for the airline company. Unlike the traditional approach of focusing only on flights and frequent flyer rewards, Air India is now offering financial services to customers with international lifestyles and interests.
Maharaja Club Gold and Silver Bring Premium Travel Privileges
A central feature of the partnership is access to Maharaja Club’s Gold and Silver membership tiers for eligible Standard Chartered clients in Singapore and the UAE.

The benefits vary according to membership level but include additional baggage allowance, priority check-in and boarding, airport lounge access, upgrade vouchers and bonus Maharaja Points. These privileges are intended to improve the airport and onboard experience for frequent international travellers.
Gold membership offers a particularly significant advantage through Star Alliance Gold status. This provides access to more than 1,000 airport lounges worldwide, alongside priority airport services and additional baggage benefits across the Star Alliance network.

The alliance connects Air India passengers with a wider international aviation network, providing recognition and travel privileges beyond journeys operated directly by the Indian carrier. Star Alliance has 25 other member airlines in addition to Air India, giving eligible Gold members access to benefits across participating carriers, subject to applicable conditions.
For affluent travellers who regularly move between business centres, lounge access and priority airport services can be important considerations when selecting an airline loyalty programme. The partnership gives Standard Chartered’s eligible customers an additional route to these benefits without relying solely on accumulating flight activity to reach the relevant status tier.

Standard Chartered Adds Cross-Border Wealth Services
The banking component extends the partnership beyond conventional airline loyalty arrangements.
Eligible Air India customers banking with Standard Chartered in Singapore or the UAE can access the bank’s international banking and wealth-management services, subject to its eligibility criteria. The offering includes dedicated relationship management support, market outlook insights from the bank’s Chief Investment Office, invitations to exclusive thought-leadership events and tailored wealth solutions.
These services are intended for customers whose financial requirements may involve more than one country. Global Indian clients can have business interests, investments, family commitments and banking relationships spread across different markets. Access to international relationship management and wealth expertise can therefore form an important part of their financial planning.
The partnership brings two established international-facing brands into a shared proposition. Air India contributes its expanding route network and loyalty programme, while Standard Chartered provides banking relationships and financial expertise across markets where cross-border services are important.
However, the arrangement does not mean that every Air India passenger will automatically qualify for wealth services or elite loyalty status. Both sides have specified eligibility requirements, and the benefits will be available to qualifying customers rather than the entire customer base.
Maharaja Club Expands Its International Reach
The partnership also supports Air India’s efforts to increase engagement with its global customer base through Maharaja Club.

The loyalty programme was redesigned in 2024 with a simplified structure, updated identity and revised customer features. Since then, it has added millions of members, according to the airline.
Members can earn and redeem Maharaja Points on flights operated by Air India and Air India Express across 104 destinations covering North America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and South Asia. The programme also extends to flights operated by other Star Alliance airlines.
Beyond air travel, Maharaja Club has partnerships with more than 100 brands across hospitality, retail, lifestyle and financial services. Members can earn points through eligible travel-related and everyday spending activities, creating additional opportunities to engage with the programme outside the airport.
The Standard Chartered agreement adds another international customer-acquisition channel, particularly among affluent clients who may already have established banking relationships in Singapore and the UAE.
Easy Connect Supports a Separate International Connectivity Strategy
The new wealth partnership comes as Air India pursues another initiative aimed at improving international travel access for passengers from India’s smaller cities.
Its Easy Connect programme, launched under the government’s hub-and-spoke framework, allows eligible passengers from selected Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to complete international check-in and immigration formalities at their originating airport before connecting through a major Indian hub.

The first services began from Varanasi in June 2026, connecting passengers through Delhi to international destinations. Air India subsequently identified cities including Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Patna, Vadodara and Visakhapatnam for a phased expansion.
Under qualifying itineraries, passengers can check their baggage through to their final international destination and avoid repeating immigration procedures at the connecting hub. Customs declaration facilities, however, are not available at the originating spoke airports under the programme.
Easy Connect and the Standard Chartered partnership serve different customer needs. One focuses on improving international connectivity from smaller Indian cities, while the other targets affluent customers seeking premium travel privileges and cross-border financial services. Together, they illustrate Air India’s efforts to build a broader international proposition as it develops its network and customer offerings.
A Wider Premium Customer Strategy
The collaboration is an avenue by which Air India can create loyalty among globally travelling customers while also growing the footprint of the Maharaja Club at two critical foreign locations. The collaboration, on the other hand, will provide Standard Chartered with opportunities for adding air-related privileges to its proposition for its wealthy Global Indian customers. The success of the collaboration will be determined by its eligibility criteria, customer adoption, and benefits provided after its successful implementation. Its focus on Singapore and the UAE initially makes it an easily understandable venture with room to further engage with customers who have needs beyond those two locations.
