Africa Tourism Soars: Qatar Airways Floods Seychelles, Marrakech and Cape Town with Unmatched Flights from June!

Qatar Airways has announced a comprehensive expansion of its flight network across key African destinations starting 16 June 2026, strengthening access for global travellers and supporting local tourism economies. Enhanced flight frequencies and new route resumptions promise easier travel to popular holiday, cultural, and wildlife destinations across the continent. This development is expected to attract more leisure tourists while boosting hotel occupancy and tour bookings.
The airline’s decision to increase its African footprint comes as global travel demand rebounds strongly, with travellers seeking unique experiences in tropical beaches, historic cities, and nature reserves. Tourism authorities on the continent have welcomed the move, noting that improved air connectivity will directly support destination marketing and visitor arrivals.
From 16 June, Qatar Airways will restart four weekly flights to Seychelles and two weekly services to Kigali, Rwanda, opening up direct access for holidaymakers to these vibrant island and East African destinations. Seychelles, famed for its powder-white beaches and luxury resorts, is expected to see a significant rise in arrivals due to the increased seat capacity.
Meanwhile, from 1 July 2026, the carrier will resume daily flights to Marrakech, Morocco, drawing travellers keen to explore its atmospheric souks, ornate palaces, and UNESCO-listed medina. Tourism operators in Morocco see this as a timely boost ahead of the peak travel season, helping attract visitors from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Beyond these resumed services, Qatar Airways has added more flights to major African cities, increasing frequency on routes to Alexandria (Egypt) from three to seven weekly flights, and to Cairo from 28 to 35 weekly services. These increases are designed to meet growing leisure travel demand while also enhancing options for visitors to explore Egypt’s ancient monuments and Nile cruises.
South Africa, a perennial favourite for safari enthusiasts, wine tourists, and coastal holidaymakers, will see its connectivity improved as flights to Cape Town rise from seven to up to ten per week. This change will make it simpler for visitors to plan multi-city African tours including Table Mountain, historic sites, and wildlife experiences.

Similarly, flights to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) will increase from three to up to seven weekly departures, offering better access to safari regions, beach destinations, and cultural attractions along the Indian Ocean coast. These changes are expected to support inbound tourism and give travel agents more flexibility when designing itineraries.
Residents and visitors in Southern Africa will also benefit from improvements to triangular flight services linking Lusaka (Zambia) with Harare (Zimbabwe), and Maputo (Mozambique) with Durban (South Africa), where frequencies will rise to seven weekly flights on each route. The enhancements aim to boost intra-regional tourism and provide greater options for travellers exploring neighbouring countries.

Adding another dimension to its Africa strategy, Qatar Airways is launching a new three-times weekly service to Port Sudan (Sudan) from 2 July 2026, connecting this Red Sea destination directly to Doha. Tourism officials see this as a step toward broadening visitor access to Sudan’s heritage sites and coastal experiences, while also strengthening trade and travel links with Asia and the Middle East.
The expanded schedule underlines Qatar Airways’ broader goal of enhancing global connectivity by rebuilding its network to more than 160 destinations worldwide. By facilitating smoother connections through its hub in Doha, the airline is helping make Africa more accessible from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Africa’s tourism sector has been recovering steadily, and industry groups say that increased flight linkages are critical to sustaining momentum. Better connectivity reduces travel friction and encourages longer stays, which in turn supports hotel occupancy, tours, local recreation, and cultural attractions.
Travel analysts point out that enhanced air services often lead to higher international visitor numbers, greater tourism revenue, and new investment in hospitality infrastructure. With more flights available, travel planners can build diverse itineraries that combine beach escapes, wildlife safaris, and cultural city breaks into single trips.

For travellers planning trips to Africa later this year or in early 2027, the expanded Qatar Airways network offers renewed opportunities to explore a wide variety of African destinations with greater ease. Families and solo travellers alike will benefit from the increased choice of flights and smoother connections for leisure travel.
As the tourism season approaches, stakeholders say the airline’s enhanced services will help unlock Africa’s potential as a year-round travel destination, drawing more international visitors, supporting local economies, and reinforcing global tourism links.
