Connectivity is one of the major drivers of tourism growth. Our ferry services make island-hopping more predictable, quicker and easier allowing guests to explore beyond one destination. This has a multiplying effect throughout the local economy. Every ferry arrival feeds the hotels, restaurants, transit companies, activity providers, dive centres, tour guides and small businesses. Better connectivity also means that the benefits of tourism can be spread throughout a number of islands, creating opportunity for local companies and sustainable economic activity for communities.

Nautika places a heavy emphasis on nurturing local talent; how are you actively training and creating sustainable maritime careers for the youth in the Andaman Islands?

We strongly believe local communities should benefit from the maritime sector’s long-term growth. Our approach centers on offering jobs, on-the-job training, skill development and mentorship for local youngsters. We motivate people to create careers in the areas of operations, customer services, technical functions and vessel management. We want to create a skilled local workforce through structured learning opportunities and career progression routes that will help to make a real contribution to the growing tourism and maritime ecology of the region.

In an industry prone to high staff turnover, what specific cultural practices have helped you build a people-first organization and maintain a remarkably low attrition rate?

We have a strong organisational culture and that’s the key to our success. We believe in the welfare of our employees, open communication, mutual respect and opportunity for professional growth. Team members are empowered to own their responsibilities and give ideas on how to improve operations and customer experience. We have training programs and recognition programs to make sure our team feel valued and supported. We have established a culture of trust, inclusion and sustainable growth that has resulted in very high loyalty and extremely low staff turnover.
