IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its footprint in Indonesia with plans to introduce Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta, following a new agreement with property developer PT Raka Eka Makmur. Expected to welcome guests in 2029, the property will represent IHG’s first hotel in Yogyakarta, while adding another destination to its expanding Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio across Indonesia.

The upcoming Yogyakarta property will build on Hotel Indigo’s growing presence in the Indonesian market. The brand already operates hotels in Bali Seminyak Beach, Bandung and Bintan. Three Hotel Indigo properties are currently operating across Indonesia, while another six hotels are under development, including projects planned for major destinations such as Bali, Jakarta and Lombok. The Yogyakarta signing therefore represents another step in the brand’s wider expansion across some of Indonesia’s important tourism and hospitality markets.

Chris Anklin, Senior Director, Development, South East Asia & Korea, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said, “We are delighted to bring the Hotel Indigo brand to Yogyakarta, a destination renowned for its rich cultural heritage, creative energy and enduring appeal among domestic and international travellers. As we expand our Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio across Indonesia, we see growing opportunities in destinations with distinctive local character and authentic stories. Yogyakarta is a natural fit for Hotel Indigo, a brand inspired by the character and spirit of the neighbourhoods it calls home.

Yogyakarta’s position as the gateway to Borobudur, one of Indonesia’s five Super Priority Destinations, coupled with strong travel demand and enhanced air connectivity through Yogyakarta International Airport, reinforces its appeal as a key tourism hub and supports our strategy of growing in compelling destinations.

This signing marks the beginning of our partnership with PT Raka Eka Makmur. Together, we look forward to creating a hospitality experience that showcases the best of Yogyakarta while contributing to the city’s continued growth as a tourism destination.”

Hotel Indigo shapes each property around the character of the neighbourhood it belongs to. Local culture, traditions, design influences and evolving food and drink scenes help define each hotel, creating spaces that feel closely connected to their destination while offering guests a lively and welcoming environment.

The upcoming 180-room Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta will embrace Yogyakarta’s distinctive cultural character and strong creative legacy through its design and guest experience. The property will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a rooftop bar and terrace, a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa. It will also cater to business gatherings and social events with around 740 square metres of meeting and event facilities, including a ballroom and several meeting rooms.

Ronny Pallar, the President Director of PT Raka Eka Makmur, said, “We are pleased to partner with IHG to introduce Hotel Indigo to Yogyakarta.

As the cultural heart of Java, Yogyakarta is renowned for its rich heritage, artistic traditions and vibrant creative community, making it a natural fit for Hotel Indigo’s neighbourhood-inspired approach. The hotel will offer guests an authentic gateway to the destination’s arts, culinary and cultural experiences, while serving as a base to explore iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Borobudur and Prambanan.

Together with IHG, we look forward to creating a hotel that captures the spirit of Yogyakarta and enables guests to experience the people, culture and stories that make this destination truly unique.”

Here’s an expanded four-paragraph version:

IHG has built a substantial presence across Indonesia, where it currently operates 35 hotels under nine different brands. This diverse portfolio allows the hospitality group to serve travellers across several market segments and destinations.

The existing network reflects IHG’s growing role in Indonesia’s hotel sector. Its range of brands gives guests more accommodation choices while supporting the company’s presence in an increasingly important hospitality market.

Expansion is set to continue, with 13 additional properties currently in the pipeline. These planned hotels are expected to further strengthen IHG’s footprint and broaden its portfolio across the country.

The development pipeline also highlights IHG’s continued commitment to Indonesia. By adding new properties alongside its 35 operating hotels, the group is positioning itself for further long-term growth as Indonesia’s travel and hospitality sector develops.
