Canada Travel Soars As Air Canada Launches New Vancouver Guangzhou Direct China Route In 2027 Air Canada will expand its international network from Vancouver International Airport with a new year-round non-stop service to Guangzhou, China, beginning in May 2027. The new route will strengthen Canada’s connectivity with Mainland China and support Vancouver’s growing role as a major Pacific aviation gateway.

The new Vancouver-Guangzhou connection will become an important addition to Air Canada’s Trans-Pacific network, providing travellers with direct access to one of China’s largest commercial and technology centres. Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, is located near Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau and remains a key destination for business, trade and tourism.

Air Canada will launch the new service on May 4, 2027, operating three weekly flights between Vancouver International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The airline will use Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for the route, offering long-haul capacity between Canada and southern China.

Flights from Vancouver will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, departing at 12:35 a.m. and arriving in Guangzhou at 5 a.m. the following day. Return flights will leave Guangzhou every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:45 a.m., arriving in Vancouver at 6:30 a.m. on the same day.

The journey will take approximately 12 to 14 hours depending on weather conditions and operational factors.

The launch will introduce a new route for Air Canada while adding more capacity to an important aviation corridor. China Southern Airlines currently operates flights between Vancouver and Guangzhou, a service that began in 2011 and continues as part of its international network.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is one of China’s busiest airports and provides extensive connections to destinations across Mainland China and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The new Air Canada service will give passengers more options for reaching southern China and connecting beyond Guangzhou.

The route expansion comes as Vancouver International Airport continues recovering and growing its international passenger network. The Asia-Pacific region has become one of the strongest drivers of YVR’s recent growth, with rising demand from travellers visiting China and other Asian markets.

Vancouver has maintained strong links with Mainland China through existing services to Beijing and Shanghai operated by Air Canada, while other Chinese airlines connect the airport with cities including Shenzhen, Chengdu and Xiamen.

Once Guangzhou service begins, Air Canada will offer up to 24 weekly flights from Vancouver to its three Mainland China destinations, further strengthening the airport’s position as the airline’s key Trans-Pacific hub.

Vancouver’s connection with China has also benefited from strong demand through Hong Kong International Airport. The Vancouver-Hong Kong route remains one of the airport’s highest-capacity overseas markets, with passengers using Hong Kong as a gateway for onward travel across Asia.

Air Canada’s expansion follows a period of strong passenger recovery at YVR. The airport recorded significant growth in international traffic, supported by increasing demand from Asia-Pacific markets.

During July 2026, Vancouver International Airport handled around 2.7 million passengers, representing year-on-year growth. Asia-Pacific traffic recorded particularly strong performance, with passenger numbers increasing by more than 10 per cent compared with the same month a year earlier.

During the first seven months of 2026, YVR welcomed 16.1 million passengers, showing continued recovery and expansion. Asia-Pacific passenger traffic reached nearly 3 million during the same period, increasing significantly compared with the previous year.

The airport’s growing international network includes several new routes launched between 2025 and 2027. Recent additions include services to destinations in Asia, North America, Central America and Japan, reflecting airlines’ confidence in Vancouver’s travel demand.

Air Canada is also expanding its Asia-Pacific presence beyond China. The airline plans to introduce a seasonal Vancouver-Sapporo route in December 2026, adding another direct connection to Japan.

At the same time, Canada’s aviation links with Vietnam are also expected to develop following a new bilateral agreement supporting direct passenger and cargo services. Air Canada has expressed interest in launching a future route to Ho Chi Minh City, potentially from Vancouver.

The airline’s network changes also include adjustments to existing services. Air Canada will end its Vancouver-Singapore year-round non-stop route in January 2027, reflecting changing market conditions and operational considerations.

Despite these adjustments, Vancouver International Airport continues to strengthen its position as a major international gateway between North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

The upcoming Guangzhou service highlights the continued importance of direct air connectivity between Canada and China. As global travel demand grows, new routes and expanded frequencies are expected to play a key role in supporting tourism, business travel and international connections through Vancouver.
