Zannier Phum Baitang in Cambodia has achieved the prestigious Green Globe Gold certification, extending its sustainability recognition for the fifth consecutive year. The luxury eco-conscious resort, known for its nature-inspired experiences and wellness-focused hospitality, continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsible tourism practices.

The latest achievement follows two major ASEAN recognitions received by the resort in February this year: the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award 2020-2028 and the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award 2026/27. These honours, combined with the Green Globe Gold certification, highlight the resort’s ongoing efforts to promote environmentally responsible operations, sustainable hospitality and exceptional guest experiences while preserving Cambodia’s natural and cultural heritage.

Zannier Phum Baitang, meaning “green village” in Cambodian, is a luxury resort inspired by traditional Khmer architecture. The property features 45 private villas designed like classic Cambodian homes, elevated on wooden stilts known as piloti. Over the years, the resort has strengthened its sustainability efforts through continuous improvement, responsible operations and strong environmental commitments.

When Phum Baitang first achieved sustainability certification, it recorded a compliance score of 79%. Through dedicated planning, consistent action and the involvement of every department, the resort has significantly enhanced its environmental performance. The latest sustainability audit shows a remarkable improvement, with the property achieving an impressive score of 97%, reflecting its long-term commitment to responsible hospitality.

The resort’s journey towards greener operations has resulted in major progress in waste reduction and resource management. Since 2019, Phum Baitang has focused on reducing unnecessary consumption by removing single-use plastic items, improving recycling systems and encouraging responsible practices among staff and guests. These initiatives have contributed to a dramatic 91.9% reduction in plastic waste, while paper waste has also declined by 7.6% through improved management and reduced usage.

A strong food-waste management system has further supported the resort’s environmental goals. Food leftovers that remain suitable for animal feed are shared with employees, ensuring that usable resources are not wasted. Meanwhile, organic waste that previously ended up in landfills is now converted into compost, which is used to enrich the resort’s gardens and support natural growth.

In 2025, the resort recorded a significant rise in recycled food waste volume, reaching a 158.6% increase. The programme has also encouraged a wider culture of mindful consumption across the property. Team members are encouraged to avoid taking excessive portions during staff meals, helping reduce unnecessary food waste while promoting greater awareness of sustainable habits.

Phum Baitang has also made considerable progress in improving energy, water and fuel efficiency through practical conservation measures. The complete transition to LED lighting, reduced lighting levels in selected areas, careful air-conditioning management and the installation of airflow taps have helped lower resource consumption throughout the property.

Due to the design of guest rooms, installing an advanced Energy Management System (EMS) is not possible. Instead, the resort manages air-conditioning operations manually to ensure efficiency. In 2026, additional energy-saving procedures were introduced, including maintaining room temperatures at 24 degrees Celsius during the night and switching off air-conditioning systems when rooms are vacant.

These combined efforts have delivered measurable results. Over the last five years, energy consumption has decreased by 8.1%, while water usage has fallen by 5.3%. The resort has also invested in more fuel-efficient transport options for guest tours and transfers. The introduction of electric vehicles has helped achieve a 37.1% reduction in fuel consumption, supporting cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions.

Beyond environmental protection, Phum Baitang is also creating opportunities to educate younger generations about nature conservation. The resort’s Young Talents Space offers an interactive activity called “Planting a Tree”, designed to help children understand the importance of protecting the environment.

Through this initiative, young visitors can select one of two native Cambodian tree species and take part in planting their own sapling with guidance from the resort’s Gardening Team. Each child can choose a name for their tree, creating a personal connection with nature. The Gardening Team continues to care for the saplings and regularly shares growth updates through emails, allowing children to follow the journey of their trees over time.

The resort’s sustainability vision extends beyond its own boundaries through meaningful community support programmes. Zannier Phum Baitang continues to invest in initiatives that create positive social impacts and strengthen relationships with local communities.

One of the resort’s major contributions was a donation of USD 537,000 to support renovation work at a local orphanage. In addition, the property continues to organise campaigns supporting a primary school in West Baray. Through guest contributions, the initiatives provide essential educational supplies, stationery and support for sports activities benefiting more than 600 children.
