Holland America Unveils Exciting Fleet Upgrade With New Poolside Live Music Venues and Expanded Experiences

Holland America Line will use its Evolution program to launch enhancements across its entire fleet beginning with Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. New poolside venues for live entertainment, fresh designs, additional staterooms, and additional amenities are all part of the enhancements.
The first new venue is scheduled to debut aboard Oosterdam after its Holland America Evolution transformation in autumn 2027. Zuiderdam will also receive a new poolside performance area as part of the same fleet renewal programme.
“Evolution is about bringing the very best of Holland America Line to more of our fleet,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. “Over the past several years, we’ve been on a journey to expand and elevate our entertainment offerings across the fleet, guided by what our guests tell us they love most. The new Lido Pool bandstands are another step in that effort, creating more opportunities to enjoy live music and memorable performances in one of the ship’s most popular gathering spaces.”
New Music Spaces at the Lido Pool
The Lido Pool is one of the most popular gathering areas aboard Holland America Line ships, and the new bandstands are designed to make the space even more engaging throughout the voyage.

Passengers will be able to enjoy a wider range of live entertainment without having to move to a separate theatre or lounge. Performances are expected to include solo musicians, small musical groups and energetic live bands, creating different entertainment options during the day and evening.
The new venues will also provide space for special celebrations and onboard events. Holland America Line’s Orange Party and other established activities will be able to use the poolside setting, giving passengers another location to gather and enjoy live entertainment.

A major advantage of the Lido Pool is its retractable glass roof. The feature allows the area to remain usable in changing weather conditions, providing greater flexibility for entertainment throughout a cruise. As a result, the new bandstands can become an important part of the onboard programme regardless of whether passengers are sailing through sunny or wet conditions.
Holland America Evolution Brings Major Changes
The poolside entertainment upgrades are part of Holland America Evolution, a major fleet modernisation programme designed to refresh six Vista and Signature Class ships.
The initiative represents one of the largest fleet investment programmes in Holland America Line’s history, with more than $500 million being allocated to improvements across the participating vessels.
The programme combines elements inspired by the company’s newer Pinnacle Class ships with new facilities and existing features that passengers already enjoy. Alongside upgraded public areas, the project will introduce additional accommodation and expand the range of experiences available onboard.
Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are the first two ships scheduled to receive the Evolution treatment, marking the beginning of a broader transformation across the fleet.
New Dining and Accommodation Options
Passengers returning to Oosterdam and Zuiderdam after their respective refurbishments will find more than upgraded entertainment areas.

Both ships are set to introduce the Grand Dutch Café, bringing one of Holland America Line’s recognised onboard venues to the two vessels. The café provides an additional setting for passengers seeking casual refreshments and a relaxed atmosphere during their cruise.
The ships will also receive new staterooms and suites. The additional accommodation will increase the choice available to passengers while supporting the wider transformation of the vessels.
The combination of new cabins, refreshed public spaces and expanded entertainment facilities is expected to create a more contemporary onboard experience while retaining the character associated with Holland America Line.
More Entertainment Throughout the Cruise
The addition of poolside bandstands reflects the growing importance of live entertainment within the cruise experience. Rather than concentrating performances in dedicated theatres, the new spaces will bring music closer to passengers in an area where they already spend considerable time.
This approach can also create a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing passengers to listen to live music while enjoying the pool deck and surrounding facilities.
The flexible design of the Lido Pool means the area can support different types of programming. From quieter daytime performances to larger evening events, the new bandstands are expected to provide additional opportunities for entertainment throughout each sailing.

Cruises Already Available for Booking
Cruises aboard Oosterdam and Zuiderdam scheduled after their Evolution transformations are already open for booking. Passengers planning future sailings can therefore choose itineraries that will feature the ships’ updated facilities and expanded entertainment options.
The upcoming changes represent an important step in Holland America Line’s fleet renewal strategy. With new music venues, additional accommodation, refreshed spaces and expanded dining options, Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are set to offer passengers a broader range of experiences.
The Lido Pool bandstands will add another central gathering point to the ships, combining live music, special events and flexible indoor-outdoor space. As the Evolution programme continues, the enhancements are expected to bring more modern features and entertainment choices across Holland America Line’s wider fleet.
