Aegean Airlines and Cyprus Airways have entered into a long-term ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) deal, with Cyprus Airways leasing two Airbus A320 aircraft to Aegean, along with cockpit and cabin crews.
The first aircraft is expected to join Aegean’s fleet in December, with the second lease set to commence at the end of March 2024.
This agreement, facilitated by aviation and ACMI specialists Zela Aviation, allows Cyprus Airways to expand its fleet and benefit from economies of scale, while providing Aegean with a means to add capacity efficiently over the next 12 months.
The move is seen as a strategic step in the ongoing cooperation between the two carriers, which already have an extensive codeshare agreement in place. Paul Sies, Chief Executive of Cyprus Airways, expressed satisfaction with the deepening collaboration, stating that they are taking their cooperation to the next level by working closely with Aegean on an operational level.
The partnership is expected to strengthen synergies between the two airlines and enhance the quality of products and services offered to customers. Andreas Christodoulides of Zela Aviation noted their pride in facilitating the project and fostering increased collaboration between the flag carriers, emphasizing the positive impact on both companies and their customers.
This move aligns with industry trends where airlines explore partnerships, leases, and codeshare agreements to optimize resources, reduce costs, and adapt to evolving market dynamics.
