AEGEAN takes another significant stride in reducing its environmental impact by expanding its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) uplift program across key European airports. Teaming up with Shell, a global leader in aviation fuel supply, AEGEAN ensures a substantial SAF blend supply through its Greek joint venture with Motor Oil, Shell & MOH Aviation. This initiative initially targets major European airports like Stockholm Arlanda and London Heathrow Airport to support AEGEAN’s network operations.

The collaboration underscores AEGEAN’s dedication to the aviation industry’s long-term sustainability objectives. It signals the commencement of a phased rollout of the airline’s SAF uplift program, aiming to extend it gradually across its entire network wherever feasible.

Mr. Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO, AEGEAN said: “Our cooperation with Shell & MOH Aviation, a market leader and long-lasting partner, allows us to further extend our SAF supply program by adding international airports and thus reduce our environmental footprint. It is a real challenge to remain committed to the industry decarbonization goals while there are existing supply limitations, yet through such collaborations and partnerships we remain optimistic that we will be able to continue expanding our operations while reducing our CO2 emissions”.

Mr. Stamatis Petsis, CEO, Shell & MOH Aviation said: “We are very pleased to cooperate with AEGEAN, the Greek flag carrier and one of the largest regional airlines in Europe, in SAF supply to Arlanda Airport in Stockholm and Heathrow Airport in London. This is an excellent initiative that reflects the company’s commitment and vision to support the industry’s decarbonization roadmap and we are happy to contribute to this effort. We hope that this AEGEAN’s initiative will inspire and aspire other airlines and industry stakeholders in Greece to similar actions”.

In 2021, AEGEAN achieved a milestone by becoming the inaugural Greek airline to incorporate a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend into one of its flights. Since July 2022, all planes departing from Thessaloniki Makedonia Airport, the airline’s second-largest hub, have been powered by SAF blend. Furthermore, by the conclusion of the preceding year, AEGEAN had established a reliable SAF supply for its operations at Oslo Gardermoen airport and is currently investigating prospects to extend this initiative to various other European airports.

Shell & MOH Aviation holds a prominent position in the aviation fuel market and is committed to supporting the long-term sustainability goals of the aviation industry by providing Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
