AEGEAN saw a notable uptick in passenger traffic during the initial quarter of this year, marked by an equivalent growth of 11% in both its domestic and international networks. Despite being historically the slowest quarter, AEGEAN managed to transport around 2.9 million passengers, an increase of 278 thousand compared to 2023, facilitated by offering roughly 3.5 million available seats.

The growth was evenly spread across operations, with Athens’ international network and Thessaloniki’s international network both seeing a 10% increase compared to 2023. This underscores AEGEAN’s dedication to fostering growth at Greece’s primary airports, particularly in international traffic during the winter season. Notably, AEGEAN’s winter schedule featured 85 direct connections to international destinations, including new routes like Bilbao, Bratislava, Tallinn, and Barcelona from Thessaloniki, as well as a fresh route to Dubai.

Moreover, a specialized incoming tourism initiative unfolded in Rhodes over the winter, partnering with expert Tour Operators to establish direct links between the island and over 20 destinations across Scandinavia, France, Germany, and England. Simultaneously, AEGEAN expanded its successful decade-long collaboration with TEMES, initiating seasonal flights to and from Kalamata airport during winter, linking the destination with Germany, Sweden, and Denmark.

Of note, the rise in international passenger traffic soared by 27% for Athens and 32% for Thessaloniki compared to the same period in 2019, marking significant success for both AEGEAN and Greek tourism. This success stems from AEGEAN’s ongoing investment in enhancing the network, interconnectivity, and flight frequencies across the country during the winter months.
