In 2023, AEGEAN achieved another year of robust growth, providing 18.5 million available seats, a substantial increase of 3.1 million seats compared to the previous year. The airline welcomed 15.5 million passengers, marking a noteworthy surge of 26%, setting a new record high.

Specifically, AEGEAN offered 11.1 million seats on its international network, surpassing the 2022 figure by 2.2 million seats. The company saw a 29% increase in international passenger traffic, totaling 9.2 million passengers. The domestic sector experienced a 22% growth in passenger traffic, attributed to improved connectivity of the islands through Athens and a strong recovery in the Greek economy. Smaller regional destinations like Sitia, Skyros, Naxos, and Lemnos exhibited significant growth, contributing to the positive overall results. The load factor rose from 79.4% in 2022 to 83.4%.

This success can be attributed to the expansion of the AEGEAN network, which now encompasses over 180 destinations across 49 countries. The addition of more than 30 new international destinations during both the summer and winter seasons, coupled with a capacity increase of over 2.2 million international seats compared to 2022, played a pivotal role. Greek travelers’ heightened interest in leisure travel, combined with increased year-round demand, further strengthened the Athens and Thessaloniki hubs.

New routes to destinations such as Dubai, Innsbruck, and Bratislava, along with the continuation of specific summer routes during the winter season, contributed to a 23% increase in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs) compared to 2022, totaling 20 billion ASKs in 2023.

Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO AEGEAN said: “2023 was another good year for AEGEAN and the Greek tourism. We will continue to work consistently to offer more choices to our passengers, to improve travel experience, but also to spread the tourism product, so that the company’s and the country’s dynamic pace is maintained in the new year, despite the challenges”.

Passenger traffic to and from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” reached 13 million, marking a 27% increase compared to 2022, and remained a primary growth driver for the country’s largest airport. Domestic network passenger traffic reached 5.7 million, up 22% from the previous year, while international network passenger traffic experienced a remarkable 32% increase, carrying 7.2 million passengers. Thessaloniki “Makedonia” Airport also saw a 28% increase in passenger traffic, with a 33% surge on the international network compared to 2022, thanks to continuous investments in additional capacity and new international routes.

In summary, 2023 saw AEGEAN’s impressive performance with substantial growth in available seats, international destinations, and passenger traffic, reaffirming its position as a key player in the aviation industry. The company’s strategic expansion and commitment to meeting evolving travel demands played a pivotal role in achieving these remarkable results.
