Air France, a proud partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has unveiled a commitment to double every customer’s contribution to its “Environment-sustainable aviation fuels” program during the event. Starting today, this pledge will be automatically applied to any travel booked for the period between July 18 and September 9, 2024, to any destination within mainland France and French Polynesia. This means that if a customer donates €50 to this initiative, Air France will contribute an equal amount, bringing the total donation to €100.

The option to support sustainable aviation fuels has been available to Air France customers since 2022, accessible through the airline’s official website and mobile app. The proceeds from this initiative are directed towards purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), a key component in the airline’s strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. Air France’s ambitious goal is to increase the use of SAF in its flights globally to at least 10% by 2030, a significant leap from the current 1%. This initiative is part of a broader effort that surpasses the mandatory European integration rates.

In recognition of its efforts, Air France-KLM was named the leading user of SAF worldwide for the second consecutive year in 2023. The airline is on a fast-track mission to lower its environmental impact, targeting a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer by 2030, compared to its 2019 levels.

The Air France Act program encapsulates the airline’s comprehensive approach to decarbonization, leveraging multiple strategies:

Air France is determined to maximize the use of sustainable aviation fuels, viewing them as a crucial step towards decarbonizing the aviation industry. The airline is actively supporting the development of SAF production facilities globally, with a focus on Europe and France. SAF, made from renewable sources like used cooking oils and agricultural waste, serves as an alternative to conventional jet fuel. The fuels chosen by Air France-KLM are proven to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 75% over their lifecycle, adhering to stringent sustainability criteria without competing with food production or utilizing palm oil. These fuels can be seamlessly integrated with existing aviation fuel without the need for modifications to aircraft, engines, or infrastructure.
