Air Transat’s 2,100 flight attendants have ratified a new collective agreement, positioning them as the highest-paid professionals in the Canadian aviation sector. After a series of information sessions held between February 19 and 22, 62.7% of attendants voted in favor of accepting the recommendation put forth by federal mediators. This freshly inked contract entails a comprehensive salary enhancement plan, with wages slated to rise by 30% over a five-year period spanning from November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2027.

Among its key provisions, the agreement abolishes the initial two salary tiers, thereby granting flight attendants with less than three years of tenure immediate access to the third tier, which translates to a substantial salary bump.

Furthermore, the pact safeguards crew seat allocations on all flights lasting seven hours or more and those departing Canada after 10 p.m. It also amplifies the allotment of personal leave and vacation days for the attendants.

“It’s been a long and complex process, but we’re finally crossing the finish line with substantial pay increases for our flight attendant members. This will be an extremely well-deserved adjustment after years of effort to help the company through financial difficulties, followed by the catastrophic years of the pandemic and a period of high inflation,” noted Chantal Bourgeois, CUPE National Representative.

The Air Transat Component comprises two local unions stationed at Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ) airports, operating within CUPE’s Airline Division. This division advocates for over 18,500 flight attendants employed across various airlines including Air Transat, Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Sunwing, WestJet, Encore, Calm Air, Canadian North, Pivot Airlines, Flair Airlines, PAL, and Pascan.

CUPE stands as Canada’s largest union, boasting a membership of 740,000 individuals nationwide. Its representation extends to workers in diverse sectors such as healthcare, emergency services, education, early learning and child care, municipalities, social services, libraries, utilities, transportation, airlines, and more.
