Alstom Foundation partners with Instituto Reciclar to empower 330 young people in São Paulo with career training, education, and workforce opportunities.

The Alstom Foundation has announced a strategic partnership with Instituto Reciclar to support a transformative initiative aimed at fostering economic inclusion for 330 young individuals aged 15 to 19 from the Jaguaré community in São Paulo. This 16-month collaboration coincides with a significant milestone for Instituto Reciclar, which will celebrate three decades of dedicated efforts in 2025 toward integrating vulnerable youth into the workforce.

Expanding Educational Opportunities for a Brighter Future

With Alstom Foundation’s backing, Instituto Reciclar is poised to expand its impact substantially in 2025. The number of participants in its training program will grow significantly, with 180 new students joining, effectively doubling the 90 trainees enrolled in 2024. The expansion spans across three program modules, increasing the total number of beneficiaries from 220 to 330. This growth marks a crucial step in reducing social disparities and fostering inclusive economic opportunities for underserved youth.

A Holistic Approach to Skill Development

Instituto Reciclar’s program is designed to equip participants with both technical and socio-emotional competencies crucial for long-term career success. The technical training segment includes hands-on workshops focusing on design thinking, personal development, and academic reinforcement in mathematics, Portuguese, and English. Meanwhile, the socio-emotional module cultivates creativity, teamwork, effective communication, and proactive problem-solving skills.

Following this foundation, the second phase of the initiative emphasizes professional training. Students will receive instruction from esteemed institutions and gain access to an online learning platform designed to enhance cognitive abilities and English proficiency. The final stage of the program connects graduates with job and internship opportunities at partner companies, ensuring they transition smoothly into the workforce with the necessary skills and confidence to build sustainable careers.

Addressing Brazil’s Youth Employment Challenges

This initiative takes on a critical challenge in Brazil, where a substantial portion of the young population faces barriers to education and employment. According to data from the Ministry of Labor’s Undersecretariat for Statistics and Studies, in 2023, approximately 7.1 million individuals aged 14 to 24 were neither working nor enrolled in school. Alarmingly, 60% of these young people were women, many of whom were young mothers, while 68% identified as Black or Brown. The study further highlighted that 38% of young women and 46% of unemployed youth had not completed secondary education.

In response to these challenges, initiatives such as the Instituto Reciclar program play a vital role in equipping young people with the skills and opportunities necessary for professional and personal development. By fostering education, training, and workforce integration, this initiative contributes to building a more equitable and prosperous future for Brazil’s next generation.
