American Airlines Launches Exclusive Direct Flights Between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda

This upcoming summer, American Airlines will introduce a convenient new route connecting New York’s JFK Airport with Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport (HND), marking the introduction of the only direct flight service between these locations by a U.S. airline. This development follows the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) recent authorization of American Airlines’ request for this unique route.

Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Executive Vice President for Network Strategy, expressed enthusiasm about the forthcoming service, highlighting its role in enhancing the airline’s connectivity with Japan alongside its partner, Japan Airlines. This collaboration aims to provide passengers with additional options for direct travel between the U.S. and Japan.

Starting February 26, travelers can book their seats for this route through the American Airlines website or its mobile application.

In a significant expansion of their service offerings, American Airlines, in partnership with Japan Airlines, will launch this new daily service on June 28, supplementing the existing flight options between JFK and HND. This addition means up to three daily flights will be available for passengers, scheduled at various convenient times.

This service will not only connect New York and Tokyo but also provide seamless onward connections to over 30 destinations across Japan and East Asia, courtesy of Japan Airlines. This includes major cities like Osaka, Sapporo, and Fukuoka, enhancing the travel network significantly.

The JFK-HND route adds to American Airlines’ portfolio of direct flights to Haneda, which already includes a daily flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and two daily flights from Los Angeles (LAX).

Flight schedules for the new service are as follows:

• From JFK to HND, flights will depart at 11:25 a.m. and arrive the following day at 2:30 p.m., utilizing the Boeing 777-200.
• From HND to JFK, flights will leave at 4:30 p.m. and land at 4:35 p.m., also on the Boeing 777-200.

Japan Airlines will complement this service with its own schedule, offering additional options for travelers:

• Flights from JFK to HND and vice versa will be operated using Airbus 350-1000 and Boeing 777-300, providing varied timings and additional flexibility for passengers.

This enhanced partnership between American and Japan Airlines aims to offer up to 17 daily flights between the continental U.S. and Japan during the next summer, including 10 daily flights to HND
