Antarctic tourism witnesses smart rise as demand grows

antarcticaTourist numbers to Antarctica that is one of the most attractive yet remote destination of the world have registered a sharp rise of nearly 6% year on year, particularly for the 2017 to 2018 cruising season when a total of 51,707 tourists made the long journey down south.

 

The total visits have risen by 38% ever since the year 2013 to 2014.

 

The United States continues to be, by far the largest market with 33% market share, followed by China (16%), Australia (11%) and Germany and UK (7%).

 

China was the fastest-growing major market witnessing a 4% rise.

 

The figures were released this week by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators.
