Additional domestic flying capacity is being provided to Vietnam Airlines through a new wet lease arrangement with Cebu Pacific. Under the agreement, one Airbus A320neo is being deployed by the Philippine carrier to support services operated from Ho Chi Minh City. The aircraft is being assigned to routes connecting the city with Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Vinh and Da Nang.

The arrangement is being introduced during a busy period for domestic travel in Vietnam. Greater operational flexibility is expected to be created for Vietnam Airlines, while access to several important leisure and commercial destinations is being reinforced. The aircraft is being supplied with Cebu Pacific pilots and cabin crew, allowing services to be supported without the lengthy process of separately sourcing an aircraft and operational personnel.

For travellers, additional capacity is being positioned where it is likely to be most useful. Popular coastal destinations, island gateways and regional centres are being connected with Vietnam’s largest city through an aircraft that has been assigned specifically to reinforce the domestic network.

Popular Tourism Routes Are Being Reinforced

The travel significance of the deployment can be seen most clearly in the destinations being served. The selected routes link Ho Chi Minh City with coastal, island and regional markets that receive strong visitor interest. During periods of increased demand, seat availability can be placed under pressure, particularly when families, leisure travellers and business passengers are travelling at the same time.

Cebu Pacific’s growing fleet is allowing this kind of deployment to be considered. The airline’s fleet has reached 100 aircraft and includes Airbus A320, A321 and A330 aircraft as well as ATR turboprops. Services are provided to 35 domestic and 26 international destinations from hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Iloilo and Davao.

The Vietnam Airlines agreement is not the first external leasing arrangement in which Cebu Pacific has participated. In 2025, two Airbus A320 aircraft were wet-leased to flyadeal to support the Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier during its peak summer operating period. Earlier capacity support had also been obtained by Cebu Pacific through an arrangement with Bulgaria Air when aircraft were required for increased Philippine travel demand.

Through these different agreements, fleet capacity has been moved in both directions according to seasonal needs. Aircraft have been brought into Cebu Pacific’s network when Philippine demand has been high, while aircraft have been sent to other airlines when demand elsewhere has created a stronger requirement.

Vietnam’s Domestic Travel Network Is Being Supported

The deployment is likely to be most visible through the continuity and availability of domestic flights. Vietnam’s geography makes air transport particularly important, as major destinations are spread along a long north-to-south corridor. Road and rail services remain essential, but air travel is often preferred when limited holiday time or long distances must be considered.

Ho Chi Minh City is positioned in the south, while Da Nang is located in central Vietnam and Vinh is situated farther north. Phu Quoc lies off the country’s southwestern coast, and Cam Ranh serves a major coastal tourism area. By linking these destinations through additional aircraft capacity, several different travel patterns are being accommodated.

Weekend trips, family visits, beach holidays and business journeys can all be supported by the same aircraft deployment. The benefits are therefore not being restricted to one passenger group. Greater connectivity is being provided across several parts of the domestic market during the agreement’s limited operating window.

Travellers Should Continue Checking Official Flight Information

Passengers booked on the affected routes should monitor official notifications issued by Vietnam Airlines. Flight times, terminals and aircraft assignments can be changed for operational reasons, even when additional capacity has been secured.
