Baha Mar, a renowned luxury destination in The Bahamas, has unveiled exciting expansion plans to introduce a fourth luxury resort as part of its next phase of development. This new addition is set to elevate Baha Mar’s “luxury of choice” offerings and is expected to open its doors in 2029. The project took a significant step forward as Baha Mar and the Bahamian government signed the Heads of Agreement, marking official approval to begin construction.

Designed by the globally acclaimed architecture firm Foster + Partners, the new resort will be nestled on 12 acres of prime beachfront property along the iconic Cable Beach. The resort will feature around 350 exquisitely designed rooms and 50 luxury branded residences, all with breathtaking views of the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Bahamas. The development promises to deliver an unparalleled experience, combining elegance and comfort for its guests.

Among the highlights of this forthcoming resort are four new restaurants, each offering distinct culinary experiences. One of the standout dining options will be an intimate Omakase experience located on the rooftop of the hotel, while a beachfront restaurant will feature a celebrity chef, enhancing the luxury dining offerings for guests.

The resort is also set to include an impressive 14,000-square-foot world-class spa and fitness center, providing guests with rejuvenating wellness experiences. Additionally, visitors will have access to luxury retail boutiques, expansive swimming pools, vibrant entertainment lounges, and family-friendly amenities, catering to a wide range of preferences and needs.

For events and conferences, the new hotel will boast 25,000 square feet of versatile indoor and outdoor space. This includes a 10,000-square-foot grand ballroom, a 6,000-square-foot junior ballroom, pre-function areas, breakout rooms, and boardrooms, along with outdoor event spaces perfect for gatherings with scenic views.

As Baha Mar continues to evolve, this fourth luxury resort is set to solidify its position as a premier destination for travelers seeking unmatched luxury, fine dining, and unforgettable experiences in The Bahamas.

“Baha Mar is committed to creating spectacular experiences, and this $350 million capital investment in our world-class resort collection underscores Baha Mar’s role as a catalyst for continued economic growth and job creation in the Bahamas,” says Graeme Davis, President of Baha Mar. “We are grateful to the government of The Bahamas for their continued support and our collaborative partnership in bringing this new development to life.”

The new resort will rise on the site of the former Melia Nassau Beach, which was closed in 2021 to pave the way for further development of Baha Mar’s luxury offerings. This expansion is part of Baha Mar’s ongoing commitment to enhance guest experiences and invest in the future of hospitality in The Bahamas. Currently, Baha Mar employs more than 5,000 associates across its resort complex and remains a driving force in the country’s largest industry—tourism.

During the construction phase, the project is expected to create opportunities for approximately 400 Bahamian workers, and once the resort is fully operational, it will provide employment for over 500 Bahamian associates. This expansion not only reinforces Baha Mar’s leadership in the hospitality sector but also strengthens its role in supporting local employment and economic growth in The Bahamas.

“Baha Mar is a valued partner, consistently delivering transformative projects that boost tourism and economic development for The Bahamas,” says Philip Davis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas. “This latest expansion will be highly significant for our country, creating local jobs, supporting tourism growth, and offering new experiences for both residents and visitors.”

“Our proposal takes cues from the traditional vernacular of the Bahamas, its rich heritage and distinctive materiality to create a resort that is truly unique,” says Kirsten Scott, Foster + Partners Design Director.  “From the very first moment of arrival, visitors are surrounded by nature and connected to water throughout. Moments of solitude and calm are spread throughout the site, making it an exclusive and sought-after destination for every visitor.”

Guests of the upcoming resort will have full access to the extensive range of amenities at Baha Mar, including the neighboring $200 million luxury waterpark, Baha Bay. This ensures that visitors can immerse themselves in the ultimate relaxation and indulgence that define a Baha Mar vacation. The new resort will offer spacious guest rooms, starting at over 550 square feet, providing an elevated stay experience that complements the resort’s existing hotel offerings. Positioned between the SLS and Rosewood in terms of pricing, it will cater to a discerning clientele seeking luxury and comfort. Details regarding the resort’s brand and operating partner will be revealed at a later stage.
