For the first time in its history, Bristol Airport has recorded ten million passengers traveling through its terminal over a consecutive twelve-month period.

To commemorate this significant achievement, the airport randomly selected ten fortunate passengers to receive gifts, including return airline tickets, retail and catering vouchers, and other prizes.

Bristol Airport currently operates flights to over 120 direct destinations in 31 countries and provides daily services to major hubs like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Dublin, and Paris, which in turn offer connections to numerous destinations worldwide.

The airport has initiated a major transformation program, investing £400 million over the next five years. This project includes the installation of advanced security screening equipment, refurbishment of the Air Traffic Control Tower, terminal enhancements, and upgrades to catering and retail facilities. Among the developments are two new Executive Lounges, one of which will be accessible to customers from December 2024, and improvements to thirty-eight catering and retail outlets, enhancing the variety available to passengers.

Additionally, a significant development project involving a £60 million investment in a new public transport interchange and multi-storey car park is underway and set to open in the summer of 2025.

This investment will expand the public transport interchange, enhance the internal road system, and add a multi-storey car park featuring amenities such as waiting rooms and rest facilities. This project is a part of the airport’s extensive multi-million-pound development plan, aiming to accommodate 12 million passengers annually.

The interchange, situated on the top level of the new car park, will increase the number of bus and coach bays from six to sixteen, transforming Bristol Airport into one of the region’s largest bus and coach interchanges. This upgrade underscores Bristol Airport’s commitment to enhancing public transport connectivity throughout the region.

Dave Lees, CEO, Bristol Airport, said: “It is exciting to mark these milestones with customers and colleagues as they demonstrate how much progress has been made on our transformation programme.

“Hopefully this gives our customers an appreciation of how soon they will be able to start making use of these new state-of-the-art facilities.

“Over £400m is being invested in the Airport facilities which will be transformational, not just in terms of the buildings being created, but the experience we will be able to deliver to customers,  airlines and business partners.

“We continue to make a major contribution to skills and employment in the region, by recruiting local people for local jobs and providing Apprenticeship opportunities across the fifty separate businesses we have based on site.”

The development of Bristol Airport into a facility capable of handling 12 million passengers annually will create thousands of new jobs in the coming years, introduce new direct air links, and bolster inbound tourism for the region.
