Major Shashank Gupta, Kalpa sub-divisional magistrate, received the award on Saturday from the union minister of state for tourism, in New Delhi, a declaration on the same was issued on Sunday.
The isolated Chitkul village located in the tribal Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh has been pronounced as the best “tourism village” of India of by the central tourism ministry, on Sunday, the officials confirmed the same.
Located in the scenic Kinnaur Valley, near the border region of Indo-Tibet, Chitkul is situated at an altitude of around 11,319 feet. In the backdrop, the regal Kinner Kailash is situated, from one side, the Baspa River flowing through and snow- covered mountains offer a stunning look of this small hilly hamlet.
For tourists and trekkers, Chitkul has appeared as a heaven with several number of visitors creating a beeline to reach this remote travel destination.
The assessment for the award as the Best Tourism Village for 2023 was made on the basis of many parameters like monetary sustainability, cultural and natural resources, environmental sustainability, health, governance, safety and promotion and preservation of cultural possessions, and development of tourism, the statement said.
Major Gupta urged to every citizen out there to accept the initiative of “travel for life” of the union government for sustainable tourism and act sensibly.
