A state-of-the-art community centre has officially opened in Tarneit West with recreational and kindergarten spaces catering for families in Melbourne’s growing west, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane joined Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly and members of the local community to open the $9.2 million Dianella Community Centre.

The new centre features two kindergarten rooms, community meeting spaces and training rooms, a commercial kitchen and consulting rooms as well as a courtyard, amphitheatre, barbecue and recreational facilities including a basketball half-court.

It was designed using a neighbourhood-based approach to better connect the community and provide a versatile place for people of all ages to meet, play and interact.

The Labor Government invested $4 million to the project from the Growing Suburbs Fund and the Children’s Facility Capital Program, which support growing communities through the creation of community facilities and services as well as supporting local councils and not-for-profit service providers to deliver early childhood facilities.

The Labor Government has invested more than $32 million in 22 projects in the Wyndham City Council area.

Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane said that the new centre will be a game-changer for Tarneit West, providing residents with top-notch childcare services and a place to gather and play. They are making a huge investment in local communities across Victoria to ensure they have the quality services and facilities they need.

Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt said that it is essential that children in growing areas have access to early childhood education services and the new Dianella Community Centre is a much-needed resource for the Tarneit West community.

Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly said that they want all Victorians to have access to world-class facilities, no matter where they live, and that’s what the new Dianella Community Centre will provide to Tarneit West locals for years to come.
