The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) has reported a significant surge in stayover visitor arrivals for 2023, with a total of 519,016 visitors during the eleven months—a remarkable 17% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth is substantial considering that 444,635 stayover arrivals were recorded in the same timeframe in 2022. The announcement made on November 20th highlighted the milestone of reaching 500,000 stayover arrivals, making 2023 a record-breaking year for Curaçao in terms of visitor numbers. December, historically a strong performing month, is anticipated to surpass all previous months of 2023, especially with additional air services scheduled, indicating a robust start for the month monitored by the CTB.

November 2023 witnessed a remarkable performance in stayover arrivals, totaling 52,179 visitors—an 18% increase from the 44,058 arrivals in November 2022. This month stands as the highest performing in absolute numbers, surpassing the previous record set in July 2023 with 50,937 stayover arrivals. The primary source countries for arrivals in November were The Netherlands, United States of America, Colombia, Canada, and Brazil, collectively contributing to 78% of all arrivals.

The Netherlands, a key market, experienced a minor decrease of 2% in stayover arrivals, totaling 18,326 arrivals in November 2023. Despite this, efforts by airlines like Corendon Airlines and TUI, with increased services, have nearly matched the 2022 monthly levels. Anticipated additional flights from Corendon Airlines and increased services from TUI and KLM in December are expected to further boost Dutch arrivals.

From the United States of America, there was a steady influx of visitors, with 11,207 arrivals in November 2023, marking a 20% increase compared to November 2022. With a total of 126,461 arrivals in the first eleven months of 2023, the USA accounted for 24% of all arrivals, contributing significantly to Curaçao’s tourism record.

Colombia exhibited substantial growth with a 79% increase in stayover arrivals in November 2023, marking the first time Curaçao welcomed over 4,000 Colombian visitors in a single month. The cumulative arrivals from Colombia in the first eleven months of 2023 reached 34,008, constituting 7% of the year’s total arrivals.

Canada also showed notable growth, with 3,954 Canadians arriving in November 2023, signifying a 69% increase from November 2022. With a year-to-date total of 27,582 Canadian visitors, it is anticipated to surpass 30,000 arrivals by the end of 2023, primarily attributed to direct services by Air Canada and WestJet.

Brazil experienced remarkable growth with 2,748 arrivals in November 2023, a staggering 222% increase compared to November 2022. This surge is credited to the twice-weekly direct service from Belo Horizonte by Azul Airlines, alongside connecting flights through Panama with Copa Airlines or Bogota with Avianca. The year-to-date arrivals from Brazil totaled 23,150, reflecting a 153% growth compared to the same period last year.

The cumulative arrivals in November 2023 included 139,251 visitors, encompassing 52,179 stayover arrivals and 85,157 cruise visitors. Comparatively, this marked a 6% increase from the total arrivals in November 2022, which stood at 131,066 visitors.

Overall, the eleven months of 2023 witnessed a total of 1.1 million arrivals, consisting of 519,016 stayover visitors, 17,314 day trippers, and 596,551 cruise visitors. This surpasses the total of 892 thousand visitors recorded in the same period last year, indicating substantial growth in Curaçao’s tourism sector.
