Egypt travel is set to be reshaped when a QR code visa system is introduced at Cairo International Airport on 1 August 2026. Traditional visa stickers will gradually be replaced as entry procedures are digitised. For Indian travellers, greater convenience may be provided, but existing eligibility rules will not be removed. Advance checks will therefore remain essential.

This change is being introduced to modernise passenger processing. Time spent at traditional bank counters may also be reduced. How the New QR Code Visa Process Will Work

The digital visa-on-arrival QR code will be available through an official online platform, a dedicated mobile application and self-service machines at Cairo International Airport. An application may be completed by the traveller. Assistance may also be provided by an authorised travel agency.

Passport and travel details will be entered through the selected channel. Payment will then be completed electronically. Once the application has been processed, a QR code will be issued. It may be saved on a mobile phone or carried as a printed copy.
