National Chocolate Day

‘Eat chocolate, stay healthy, grow Ghana’ will be the message for 2024 Chocolate Day in Ghana.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with COCOBOD and Cocoa Processing Company, will celebrate National Chocolate Day from February 9 to 14 2024.

The theme is, ‘Eat chocolate, stay healthy, grow Ghana’ and sub-themed, ‘Explore Ghana, eat chocolate’.

The purpose of the celebration, which is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, is to encourage chocolate consumption and draw attention to chocolate as a nutritious food.

The National Chocolate Day is observed in an effort to dispel the myth that Valentine’s Day in particular encourages immoral behavior among young people.

Its primary goals upon implementation were to increase domestic travel and encourage the use of products derived from cocoa.

Additionally, it seeks to market Ghana as the go-to place for chocolate, and raise awareness among Ghanaians of the health advantages of chocolate.

The Chocolate Week will start with a visit to the Chief Imam, the Central and Cantonments Mosques, and a health walk from the Accra Tourist Information Centre to the Chocolate City at Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, according to the Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs, GTA, Mr. Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi.

There will also be a cook-out session, family day, church visits, opening of the exhibition at Chocolate City following the walk, time with school children, and a competition for Senior High School students to make chocolate quizzes.

In addition, he added, “Chocolates will be shared at tourist destinations throughout the 17 regions of the GTA, as well as Chocolatarium, a summit for players in the chocolate industry.”
