Etihad Airways is marking the arrival of three fresh Boeing 787-9 aircraft this weekend, a moment of pride for the UAE’s flag carrier. The planes joined the expanding fleet at Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport.

Set to commence operations this month, these new additions signify a stride forward for Etihad, aligning with its ambitious vision to serve 125 destinations with over 160 aircraft by 2030.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways, said: “We are thrilled to welcome these brand-new, state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners to Abu Dhabi. Their arrival is key to our network expansion strategy and comes at the perfect time as we continue to add multiple new destinations and expand frequencies into key markets.

“These new aircraft support our commitment to Abu Dhabi, allowing us to bring more guests to experience the incredible capital of the UAE, either as their end destination or on a stopover when connecting across our expanding network.”

The introduction of the 787-9s will fortify Etihad’s fleet as it gears up to launch more routes in the coming months. Among these are flights to Boston, marking the airline’s fourth gateway in the United States, starting on March 31st. Additionally, Etihad will extend its reach to Nairobi and Bali, alongside introducing summer routes to Nice, Malaga, Mykonos, and Santorini.

These three Dreamliners follow the reception of a new Boeing 787-10 in October 2023, which bolstered Etihad’s capacity to accommodate its expanding network. In the fourth quarter of 2023, the airline initiated new routes to Osaka, Copenhagen, and Dusseldorf, as well as Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram in India’s Kerala region on New Year’s Day.

Etihad has also broadened its presence across various markets, enhancing flight frequencies and connectivity across its network.

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliners boast up to 25% greater fuel efficiency compared to many aircraft of similar size. With a fleet now comprising 43 Dreamliners and a total of 88 aircraft, including Airbus A380s, A350s, A320s, and Boeing 777s, Etihad continues to lead with modern and eco-conscious aviation solutions.

Offering an unparalleled flying experience, Etihad’s new 787 Dreamliner cabins present a spacious and comfortable environment, consistent with the airline’s renowned signature style. The two-class configuration features 32 Business Suites and 271 Economy seats.

The Business cabin showcases a bespoke version of the Elements seat, a collaboration between Collins and Etihad, marking the airline’s pioneering adoption of this seat on the Boeing 787.

Each Business Suite provides ample space, comfort, and privacy, with direct aisle access and the ability to recline into a fully lie-flat bed measuring 78 inches in length. Equipped with a 17.3-inch 4K TV screen, Bluetooth headphone pairing, wireless charging, and multiple charging ports, these suites ensure a luxurious journey for guests.

In Economy, the new 787 offers lighter and more fuel-efficient seating compared to the current fleet. With 217 standard seats and 54 Extra Legroom seats boasting four inches of additional legroom, passengers can expect exceptional comfort and a heightened sense of space.

The aircraft features cutting-edge in-flight entertainment technology from Safran, including Rave Ultra 13.3-inch 4K touch-screen monitors and the option to pair personal devices for use as remotes.

Moreover, the 787 is equipped with Viasat’s latest connectivity solution utilizing Ka-band technology, offering high-speed Wi-Fi with streaming capabilities and Live TV, including news and sports channels.

Through Etihad’s Wi-Fly service, all Etihad Guest members enjoy complimentary chat packages, while guests have the option to purchase full Surf packages for unlimited data throughout the flight.
