Thailand’s Phuket welcomed around eight million travellers between January and July 2026, driven by continued international demand, strong visitor spending and growing arrivals from key global markets despite a slight year-on-year decline in total visitors. The island’s tourism strength was supported by rising demand from markets such as Israel, Russia, China and India, while steady revenue performance reflected the contribution of high-spending travellers. With its world-famous beaches, luxury resorts, entertainment offerings and expanding international connectivity, Phuket continues to strengthen its position as one of Thailand’s most powerful tourism destinations.

Phuket, Thailand’s largest island and one of Asia’s most popular holiday destinations, recorded around eight million visitors between January and July 2026, showing continued global demand despite a small decline in total arrivals compared with the previous year. While visitor numbers decreased by 1.53%, tourism revenue remained largely stable, supported by strong spending from international travellers and growing demand from several emerging markets, including a major increase in visitors from Israel.

The island’s tourism performance highlights Phuket’s ability to maintain economic strength even during periods of slower visitor growth. The destination continues to attract travellers from diverse regions, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, helping maintain its position as a leading international beach tourism hub.

Phuket Maintains Strong Tourism Revenue as High-Spending Travellers Support Growth

Although Phuket experienced a slight reduction in visitor numbers during the first seven months of 2026, the impact on tourism income remained limited. The island generated approximately 310.961 billion baht in tourism revenue between January and July, representing only a 0.72% decline compared with the same period last year.

The smaller decline in revenue compared with arrivals indicates that visitor spending remained strong. Travellers continued to contribute significantly through accommodation, dining, shopping, entertainment, transportation and experiences across the island.

Phuket’s tourism sector has increasingly focused on attracting quality visitors who contribute greater economic value rather than depending only on high arrival numbers. Luxury resorts, premium experiences, wellness tourism, marine activities and long-stay holidays have helped strengthen the island’s revenue performance.

This trend demonstrates that Phuket’s tourism economy remains resilient despite changes in international travel patterns.

Israel Becomes One of Phuket’s Fastest-Growing Visitor Markets

One of the most notable developments in Phuket’s tourism landscape during 2026 has been the rapid growth of Israeli visitors.

In July alone, arrivals from Israel increased by 52.43% compared with the same month a year earlier. Compared with pre-pandemic 2019 levels, Israeli visitor numbers recorded a dramatic increase of more than 1,200%.

The strong growth reflects Phuket’s expanding appeal among travellers seeking tropical holidays, luxury accommodation and leisure experiences. The increase also highlights how the island continues to attract new international markets beyond its traditional visitor base.

The rise of Israeli travellers adds further diversity to Phuket’s tourism industry and supports businesses across hotels, restaurants, tour operations and local attractions.

Russia Leads Phuket’s International Visitor Markets in 2026

Russia remained Phuket’s largest international source market during the January–July period, with 619,130 visitors arriving on the island.

Russian travellers have continued to play an important role in Phuket’s tourism recovery due to strong demand for warm-weather holidays, resort stays and extended vacations.

China ranked as the second-largest market with 383,918 visitors, maintaining its importance as one of Thailand’s key tourism sources. Despite changes in global travel behaviour, Chinese travellers continue to represent a major segment of Phuket’s international tourism industry.

India followed closely as the third-largest market, contributing 354,066 visitors during the same period. The growing importance of Indian travellers reflects increasing demand for international holidays, destination weddings, family vacations and leisure experiences in Thailand.

European and Regional Markets Continue Supporting Phuket Tourism

Beyond its largest Asian markets, Phuket continued to attract strong visitor demand from Europe and neighbouring countries.

Australia recorded 149,542 arrivals during the first seven months of 2026, while the United Kingdom contributed 131,344 visitors. Both markets remain important for Phuket due to their long-standing preference for beach holidays and resort-based travel.

Germany and France also remained among the island’s leading markets, recording 106,902 and 103,752 visitors respectively.

Regional markets added further strength to Phuket’s tourism performance. Malaysia contributed 87,854 visitors, Kazakhstan recorded 81,673 arrivals and South Korea accounted for 79,960 visitors.

The wide range of source markets demonstrates Phuket’s global tourism appeal and reduces reliance on any single country for visitor growth.

Phuket Looks Towards Future Tourism Expansion and Destination Management

As visitor demand continues to increase, Phuket is also examining ways to manage tourism growth while improving visitor experiences.

Authorities are considering expanding designated entertainment areas to support the island’s growing nightlife sector and provide a more organised framework for entertainment businesses.

Night-time tourism remains an important part of Phuket’s appeal, attracting international visitors and generating economic activity for restaurants, bars, entertainment venues and supporting businesses.

However, future development will require careful planning to balance tourism expansion with local community needs, environmental protection and sustainable destination management.

Thailand’s Phuket welcomed eight million travellers in the first seven months of 2026 as strong international demand, rising spending and growth from key overseas markets helped the island maintain its position as a leading global tourism destination despite a slight decline in arrivals.

Phuket Remains a Global Tourism Powerhouse

Despite a modest decline in visitor numbers, Phuket’s 2026 tourism performance shows the island remains one of the world’s strongest leisure destinations.

With around eight million visitors recorded in seven months, billions of baht in tourism revenue generated and growing demand from international markets, Phuket continues to demonstrate its ability to attract travellers from across the globe.

The rise of new markets such as Israel, combined with strong contributions from Russia, China, India, Europe and regional destinations, highlights the island’s evolving tourism landscape.

As Phuket continues to develop its hospitality sector, entertainment offerings and visitor experiences, the destination is expected to remain a major force in Thailand’s tourism industry and a preferred choice for global travellers seeking tropical escapes.
