Kottayam’s Kumarakom is gearing up to host the second Sherpas meet to be held under India’s G20 presidency from March 30-April 2. The first one was held in Udaipur in the first week of December 2022.
Sherpas are personal emissaries of the leaders of the member countries and the meeting shapes the agenda for G20 to be held in New Delhi.

The scenic getaway spot will also host another meeting of the development working group from April 6-9. The first such meeting was held in Mumbai from December 13-16, 2023. Both events will be held at Waterscapes, a premium backwater resort of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.

Nearly 200 officials are expected to attend the meet. As such, rooms in other resorts of Kumarakom have also been blocked for the event. The events are expected to give the local businesses a much-needed boost, opined K Arunkumar, general secretary, Chamber of Vembanad Hotels and Resorts.

It has been reported that the officials coming to the meet will go on a sightseeing trip on one of the four days. The schedule has not been finalised yet due to security reasons. For the same reasons, activities for the tourists to experience village tourism are likely to be set up in one of the resorts.
