Moldova is gaining ground in the global tech scene as its innovation technology park hosts more than 3,000 resident companies. Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP) is recognized as Europe’s first nationwide e-Park, with a significant impact on the country’s growing technology industry. The technology park serves as a liaison between numerous entrepreneurs and investors from over 50 countries. It was launched in 2018, hosting 338 resident companies. This technology park has developed as a global technology ecosystem, supporting more than 27,000 jobs. Notably, about 90% of the products and services of the resident companies in the technology park are destined for export, and it continues to offer a competitive advantage in the country’s digital economy, attracting international investors.

Since launching operations in 2018 with just 338 resident companies, MITP has grown into a thriving technology ecosystem. Eight years later, the park supports more than 3,000 active businesses and employs over 27,000 people. Its international presence continues to strengthen, with founders and investors from more than 50 countries participating in the ecosystem. Around 90% of the products and services developed by MITP resident companies are destined for export, demonstrating Moldova’s growing integration into global technology markets and its expanding role as a centre for digital innovation and international business.

“Reaching 3,000 active residents is much more than a numerical milestone. It reflects a structural change in Moldova’s economy and the role technology now plays in its development. MITP has become one of the country’s main drivers of economic development, combining local entrepreneurship, exports, foreign investment and highly skilled jobs. At the same time, we are increasingly seeing Moldovan companies evolve from outsourcing-led business models towards developing their own products, intellectual property and scalable solutions for international markets,” said Marina Bzovîi, Administrator of Moldova Innovation Technology Park.

“Our role is to make this transition easier. MITP provides a predictable framework in which startups can launch, test and grow their businesses, while an expanding ecosystem of instruments helps companies attract investment, access international markets and bring global talent to Moldova. From the IT Visa and simplified business environment to startup financing and innovation support, we want Moldova to be a place where technology companies can build global businesses and global teams.”

Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP) continues to demonstrate the strength of the country’s expanding digital economy, with its latest financial and employment figures revealing substantial growth across businesses of different sizes. Between January and June 2026, resident companies reported MDL 10.7 billion (approximately €500 million) in total sales, an increase of 19.1% compared with the first half of 2025. By 30 June, the park’s active resident companies employed more than 27,150 professionals, accounting for approximately 3.3% of Moldova’s workforce. The figures underline the expanding contribution of technology businesses to national employment, economic output and international commercial activity.

A defining characteristic of MITP is the strong presence of home-grown enterprises within its business community. Moldovan-owned companies account for 86% of all residents, while internationally owned businesses make up the remaining 14%. Although foreign-controlled enterprises represent a relatively small proportion of resident companies, they generate approximately 26% of the park’s overall sales. This combination of domestic entrepreneurship and international participation has created an ecosystem in which locally established businesses form the majority, supported by overseas investment, specialist expertise and access to international business networks.

The park’s financial performance also reveals that smaller businesses play a central role in generating revenue. During the first six months of 2026, companies with fewer than 50 employees contributed 55% of total resident sales. When the analysis extends to enterprises employing fewer than 250 people, their combined contribution rises to approximately 82%. Meanwhile, businesses outside the park’s 35 largest companies accounted for roughly two-thirds of total sales. This distribution indicates that MITP’s commercial expansion is not dependent exclusively on its biggest employers. Instead, a substantial share of economic activity comes from smaller and medium-sized technology enterprises.

Such a business environment supports the development of an economy increasingly centred on technical capabilities, innovation and intellectual property. Companies operating with relatively small teams can create digital services and technology solutions for customers in multiple countries without needing extensive physical infrastructure. This also opens opportunities for Moldovan businesses to move beyond outsourced technology services and develop proprietary digital products capable of reaching larger international markets. The park’s increasing economic significance was reflected in its 5.3% contribution to Moldova’s gross domestic product in 2025, demonstrating the growing importance of technology-related activities within the national economy.

To support further international expansion, MITP is developing programmes that make it easier for resident companies to attract specialist talent from abroad. Its IT Visa initiative provides a streamlined framework for bringing foreign executives, investors and highly qualified technology professionals into Moldova. The programme is designed to reduce immigration-related obstacles and simplify aspects of international recruitment, enabling businesses to access expertise beyond the domestic labour market. It also strengthens the country’s appeal to technology entrepreneurs and businesses seeking to establish or expand internationally connected operations.

MITP is also introducing additional financial resources to encourage the creation and commercial development of innovative technology products. The newly established Moldova Innovation Fund, managed by the park, has been created to assist promising projects during their earliest stages. Backed by an initial budget exceeding €1 million, the initiative plans to organise four financing rounds over the next 24 months. Funding will target pre-seed and early-stage projects, helping entrepreneurs test business concepts, validate technical solutions, develop prototypes and advance towards products ready for commercial markets. The programme adds a dedicated source of early-stage support for Moldova’s emerging technology ventures.

The park’s operating framework remains another important element of its business proposition. Resident companies benefit from a single tax equivalent to 7% of sales revenue, alongside digital administrative processes and a virtual residency arrangement. This structure is intended to simplify business operations and create a more accessible environment for eligible technology enterprises. Importantly, the Moldovan state has committed to maintaining the stability of the tax regime until the end of 2035. This long-term guarantee provides greater regulatory predictability for businesses considering investment, workforce expansion and future development within the park.

MITP’s growth outlook remains substantial, with resident businesses projected to generate approximately MDL 20 billion (around €1 billion) in combined revenue by the end of 2026. This forecast, rather than a confirmed year-end result, signals expectations of continued expansion in Moldova’s technology industry. If achieved, the projected revenue would further increase the sector’s contribution to exports, skilled employment and investment activity. With local entrepreneurs accounting for most resident companies and international investors participating in its wider ecosystem, MITP is supporting Moldova’s efforts to build a more diversified, export-oriented economy driven by digital expertise, technological innovation and higher-value business activity.
