Today the 2023 Economic Impact Research of WTTC reveals that the Greek tourism in 2023 is anticipated to reach close to pre-pandemic levels.


To the Greek economy, tourism by the end of 2023 is hoped to contribute €39.2 billion, only 4% at the back the 2019 pre-pandemic levels of €40.8 billion.


Also, WTTC is predicting that tourism in 2023 will make around 17,000 jobs, reaching the peak level of 2019 of around 820,000 employed by tourism.


The contribution of tourism GDP grew by almost two fifths to arrive at almost €38 billion. This represented 18.5% of the Greek economy.

Also, the sector generated 5,000 additional jobs, compared to the year before, to reach 800,000 jobs countrywide.


The sector, as per the report, has recovered 82%% of the jobs lost during the COVID.


Also, last year witnessed the comeback of foreign tourists to Greece, with Germany 14%, the UK 14%, and Bulgaria 10%, ruling as Greece’s source markets for international arrivals.


International visitor spending in 2022, as per the data, contributed €19.1 billion to the country’s economy. This represented an annual growth of more than 56%.


WTTC President & CEO, Julia Simpson, said that in Greece, the tourism sector is very crucial. It represents over 19% of the economy.


Tourism is getting better powerfully with high demand in visitors. Greece is one of Europe’s most popular places.
