To enhance guest experiences and maintain its reputation for exceptional stays, the Hampton Inn Columbia Downtown Historic District, owned by Windsor Aughtry and operated by Hospitality America, has undergone a comprehensive multimillion-dollar renovation. The property now showcases Hilton’s innovative North American prototype, with every guest room and public area completely overhauled. The renovation includes a significantly expanded fitness center, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, and the addition of an inviting outdoor patio with a fireplace and cozy seating. This marks the 14th Hilton hotel in Hospitality America’s portfolio, with five of those properties located in South Carolina.
“The entire hotel was renovated; nothing was left untouched,” said General Manager Stephen Crist. “Every decision was made with the guests’ perspective in mind. Not only was this a big financial investment in the guest stay, but it was an emotional investment on the part of our associates who take great pride in delivering impeccable service. This renovation showcases Hospitality America’s dedication to delivering and upholding a superior product and a consistent guest experience. Coupled with the hotel’s prime location—ideal for business travelers seeking a quick commute to work and easy access to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, as well as leisure travelers drawn to the Historic Vista District’s shops, restaurants, nightlife, the University of South Carolina, sporting events, and more—and guests are discovering an upper-midscale hotel that stands out as best in class, supported by genuine hospitality.”
“At Hospitality America, we are thrilled to see Windsor Aughtry’s continued investment in the Hampton Inn Columbia Historic District,” said Ben Campbell, CEO of Hospitality America. “Their commitment to enhancing this property not only elevates the guest experience but also strengthens our partnership. These improvements demonstrate a forward-thinking approach that aligns perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional service and quality accommodations.”
A Modern Transformation in Hospitality
The recent transformation of the Hampton Inn Columbia introduces a refreshed guest experience with several notable upgrades. The front desk has been repositioned to offer a more welcoming atmosphere, complemented by a unique local feature wall and versatile, multi-use spaces. Guestrooms are designed to blend functionality with comfort, featuring a versatile task table, enhanced bathroom layouts, larger windows to bring in more natural light, and optimized storage solutions for a more convenient stay. The design, curated by AK Design Group from Brentwood, Tennessee, is a fusion of local charm, Southern warmth, and modern sophistication. It seamlessly blends historical elements with a contemporary flair, offering a neutral and light color palette, along with cozy furnishings intended to make guests feel right at home. The décor draws inspiration from the nearby university, reflecting its distinctive spirit.
In keeping with the Hampton brand’s legacy, the signature “Sleep Happy Experience” and the iconic “Hampton Waffle” continue to be integral features, delighting guests. For added variety, the beloved waffles now come in seasonal flavors, further enhancing the breakfast experience.
“Reviews from returning guests report that they love the changes, with comments stating that the property feels ‘modern,’ ‘fresh,’ and ‘inviting,’” Crist said. “With the overhaul now complete, we anticipate seeing a steady rise in occupancy and several new faces from business and leisure travelers alike walking through our doors.”
Daniel Lock, Hospitality America Vice President, Commercial Strategy, had this to say: “Guests are increasingly looking for accommodations that provide a more personalized experience. Along with our physical upgrades, we’re excited to introduce Hilton’s Connected Room Technology, allowing guests to stream their favorite shows and all from their mobile devices. Under Stephen’s leadership and with a refreshed visual identity, we’re confident in delivering strong financial returns for the owner, fostering positive employee engagement, and offering exceptional experiences for our guests.”
