Hawaiian Airlines Welcomes Moana 2 on Board with New A330 Aircraft Design Featuring Moana, Maui, and Kakamora

Hawaiian Airlines celebrated the anticipated release of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2, hitting theaters on Nov. 27, by unveiling the first of three special aircraft designs. Hawaiian’s Airbus A330 now proudly showcases bold imagery of Moana, the fearless wayfinder, alongside Maui, the shape-shifting demigod, and the mischievous Kakamora. The aircraft also features a warm “Welcome Voyagers” message, inviting guests to embark on their next adventure with Hawaiʻi’s hometown airline.

“As modern-day voyagers, we pride ourselves in sharing our host culture and ensuring our guests are immersed in unparalleled comfort and breathtaking discovery as they travel with us across the Pacific Ocean,” said Alisa Onishi, director of brand and culture at Hawaiian Airlines. “Following the success of our first collaboration with ‘Moana,’ we are honored to reintroduce Moana, Maui, and their friends to our guests traveling between Hawaiʻi and Asia, Oceania, the U.S. continent and within the Hawaiian Islands.”

In the coming month, Hawaiian Airlines will introduce two more custom character decals on an Airbus A321neo, which serves select U.S. markets and the Cook Islands, and a Boeing 717, operating inter-island routes within Hawaii. All three Moana 2-themed aircraft will also feature overhead luggage bins adorned with characters and artwork from the film. Guests can dive deeper into the experience with an exclusive Moana 2 AR journey, launching alongside the second livery reveal. These themed planes will fly across Hawaiian’s U.S. domestic routes and international destinations, including American Samoa, Australia, the Cook Islands, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Tahiti through March 2025.

Hawaiian Airlines is celebrating its collaboration with Moana 2 by surprising passengers on its specially designed A330, A321neo, and Boeing B717 aircraft with exclusive gifts. The airline also launched the Navigate Your Own Adventure sweepstakes, open through Nov. 30, inviting residents of the United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea to participate. Five lucky winners, one from each region, will receive 500,000 HawaiianMiles.

Honoring Polynesian navigational traditions, Hawaiian has thoughtfully named each Moana 2-themed aircraft after significant Hawaiian symbols connected to voyaging:

• Hōkūleʻa / Airbus A330: Named after Hawaiʻi’s zenith star Arcturus and the renowned Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Hōkūleʻa.
• Koa / Airbus A321neo: Named for the Acacia koa tree, traditionally used to craft Polynesian voyaging canoes.
• ʻElepaio / Boeing 717: Named after the native Hawaiian bird revered as the guardian of canoe builders.

With these uniquely named aircraft, Hawaiian Airlines continues to celebrate and preserve Hawaiian culture and voyaging heritage through this exciting partnership.
