Situated some 15 miles to the west of the historical city of Oxford, it is foreseen the hotel will boost the destination profile for both leisurely guests as well as business visitors and foreign tourists looking for genuine English atmosphere outside the principal cities.

The project will focus on creating a distinctive guest experience rather than a traditional hotel stay. The design will highlight Witney’s identity as a historic market town with strong links to textile production and the wider Cotswolds region.

Key features planned for the transformed hotel include:

The development is expected to attract visitors looking for cultural tourism, countryside escapes and premium accommodation close to Oxford.

Witney Heritage To Shape New Hyatt Experience

The JdV by Hyatt brand, named after the French expression “joie de vivre”, is built around independent hotels that reflect their surrounding communities.

Unlike standard international hotel formats, JdV by Hyatt properties are designed around local stories, neighbourhood character and regional identity.

For the Oxfordshire location, the hotel concept will draw inspiration from Witney’s historic wool and blanket-making industry. The town was internationally recognised for producing high-quality blankets, with wool traditionally processed using water from the River Windrush before being woven and exported.

Interior concepts will incorporate references to traditional craftsmanship and the Arts and Crafts movement, connecting the hotel design with the area’s cultural history.

This approach is expected to provide travellers with a stronger sense of place while visiting Oxfordshire.

Travel Guide: What Visitors Can Explore Around Witney

The arrival of the new hotel will provide travellers with a convenient base for exploring some of England’s most popular attractions.

Visitors staying in Witney can access:

Oxford

The Cotswolds

Witney Local Experiences

The location allows travellers to combine city tourism with rural experiences, making it suitable for weekend breaks, longer countryside holidays and cultural trips.

Local Food, Events And Community Connections Planned

The redesigned hotel will place emphasis on local partnerships. The restaurant and bar are expected to feature ingredients sourced from nearby suppliers, supporting regional producers and creating a stronger connection between guests and the destination.

Meeting and event facilities will also expand the hotel’s role within the local economy. The spaces are planned to support corporate gatherings, private celebrations and community events.

The property is also expected to build relationships with local artisans and businesses, creating opportunities for visitors to discover Oxfordshire’s creative industries.

Hyatt Expands UK Lifestyle Hospitality Presence

The opening of the Witney hotel is a key addition to JdV by Hyatt’s UK footprint; the global chain continues to expand internationally with an focus on unique independent hotels blended with global practices.

InnPractice will assist with development, and has experience providing hotel management services, helping control guest experience and business activities with their robust operating platform, tracking financial results and guests.

This will provide travellers with an addition option in Oxfordshire by having a choice to stay in an establishment which combines global hotel experience with the feel of English market town history.

Oxford Witney will be reborn as JdV by Hyatt, providing a new lifestyle hospitality product within the English countryside area of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, before 2026.
