IHG debuts first hotel Indigo in Malaysia

IHG Hotels & Resorts marks a significant milestone with the inauguration of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park, the 150th Hotel Indigo globally and the brand’s inaugural presence in Malaysia.

Just as each neighborhood has its own unique identity, Hotel Indigo properties distinguish themselves individually. Overlooking the scenic Bukit Nanas and surrounded by KL Forest Eco Park, this 180-room urban sanctuary integrates the last remaining patch of tropical rainforest in central Kuala Lumpur into its design. The hotel’s aesthetic reflects local cultural nuances, history, and references tied to the rainforest, enhancing the overall guest experience, thanks to the efforts of Malaysia-based designers GA Group.

Ashleigh Garside, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur, expressed excitement about celebrating the distinctiveness of the neighborhood, sharing its stories, and inspiring local discovery. The hotel aims to offer an authentically local stay experience while welcoming both guests and members of the community.

Sustainability takes center stage in the hotel’s design, evident in features such as a living vertical garden in the lobby, a central staircase crafted from recycled railway sleepers and steel bars, and a large-scale installation made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Various elements, from feature lights to artwork, showcase a commitment to repurposing materials and promoting eco-conscious practices.

Every aspect of the property exudes local character and Malaysian motifs, from tiffin carriers and Hap Seng cracker tins in guestrooms to hand-painted Peranakan tiles and pages from nostalgic Chinese calendars adorning wardrobes. Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park invites guests to experience the neighborhood’s authenticity and charm through beautifully intimate spaces that honor local history and traditions.

Culinary enthusiasts can indulge in Malaysia’s diverse cuisine without leaving the property. Wok Star offers local delights, while The Silver Monkey caters to those seeking a great steak. The rooftop features a 24-hour fitness center and an outdoor pool, providing panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur’s dynamic cityscape.

The hotel’s commitment to supporting local communities extends to The Library, housing books by local authors available for purchase, and hand-woven baskets in guest rooms, sold in support of the Penan community—a nomadic indigenous group from East Malaysia.
