The legendary American author, chef and travel documentarian, Anthony Bourdain, once said that travel is all about wobbling in the unknown. And today, this unknown, appears to be what women travelers are getting attracted to more than earlier times.
In the societal context of India, where still travel or vacationing is roughly considered a family affair, the past few years have been different. The tourism industry at present is experiencing the surfacing of a women-only travel segment that cannot be overlooked in anyway. In terms of customer base, women travelers comprise 10-15% for the large organized sector players, and for few new-age ventures, its 100% that particularly serve to them. The request to travel, be it as BFF travels, girl gangs, bachelorette trips, kitty party getaways, or solo travelling, be it domestic or international, is not just constrained to GenZs or millennials, but is experiencing older women keen on venturing out all on their own.
Travel sector due to covid being one of the worst-hit sectors globally, the industry is picking up gradually. As per the Ministry of Tourism, just to provide a sense of the Indian travel market post-pandemic, the calendar year 2021 witnessed almost 85 lakh departures of Indian nationals out of which almost 33% or around 3 crore people travelled for holiday, leisure, and recreation purposes.
