Jetstar marks milestone as 12 Millionth customer arrives in Newcastle

Jetstar marked a significant achievement by flying its 12 millionth customer to Newcastle, commemorating 19 years of operations in the New South Wales city and renowned holiday destination.

Newcastle holds a special place in Jetstar’s history as it served as the departure point for its inaugural flight to Melbourne on May 25, 2004. Fast forward two decades, Jetstar currently operates over 40 flights per week connecting Newcastle to Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Cairns.

Annually, Jetstar facilitates the transportation of more than 500,000 passengers to and from Newcastle, thereby contributing to the tourism economy of the city and the surrounding Hunter region.

Among the passengers on December 6, 2023, was Jetstar’s 12 millionth customer to arrive in Newcastle, a member of the Marlin family, who received a special welcome gift from the airline.

Expressing gratitude, Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer, extended thanks to the Newcastle community for their unwavering support over the past two decades. She acknowledged the significance of Newcastle hosting Jetstar’s inaugural flight and attributed the airline’s growth to the exceptional Newcastle team and the local community. Special appreciation was also extended to Newcastle Airport for its continuous support.

Dr. Peter Cock, CEO of Newcastle Airport, congratulated Jetstar on this milestone, highlighting the airline’s role as a leading low-cost carrier, enhancing accessibility to air travel for a broader audience and contributing to the economic growth of the region. He emphasized the strong partnership between Newcastle Airport and Jetstar and expressed excitement about future collaborations.
