Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam is accelerating tourism development through beachfront redevelopment, improved transport connections, new investment projects and cultural events designed to attract visitors throughout the year. A major plan for Nhat Le Beach involves relocating businesses to reorganise the coastline, while proposed ecotourism developments and expanded air and rail connections aim to strengthen the province’s appeal. Quang Tri welcomed approximately 9.4 million visitors in the first nine months of 2026, with tourism revenue reaching an estimated VND 10.81 trillion.

Why Is Quang Tri Redeveloping Nhat Le Beach?

Nhat Le Beach is at the centre of Quang Tri’s efforts to improve its coastal tourism infrastructure. Around 80 businesses have agreed to vacate their premises to make way for redevelopment, including 29 restaurant operators at Nhat Le 2 Beach who are preparing to relocate.

The move represents progress in efforts to reorganise the beachfront, an initiative that has encountered difficulties over several years. Relocating existing businesses is an important step towards implementing the wider redevelopment plan, although the transition also raises questions about compensation, business continuity and support for affected operators.

Under the proposed scheme, the redevelopment area around Truong Phap Street and Nhat Le Beach will cover approximately 96 hectares. The estimated investment is nearly VND 1.8 trillion, equivalent to around US$68 million.

The plan aims to reorganise the coastal area by separating public recreational spaces from urban development and commercial facilities. Its proposed layout is intended to improve the visitor experience while creating a more structured environment for tourism-related businesses.

Nhat Le Beach is an important part of Quang Tri’s coastal tourism offer. Improving its public spaces, access roads and surrounding facilities could help the province make better use of its coastline and strengthen the destination’s competitiveness.

How Will the Nhat Le Beach Development Change the Coastline?

The proposed redevelopment divides the area around Truong Phap Street into zones with different functions.

The eastern side of the road will feature parks, public squares, beaches and other public spaces. These facilities are intended to provide room for recreation and improve access to the coast.

The western side will accommodate urban development, services and car parks. This arrangement is expected to organise commercial and urban activities while allowing the beachfront to accommodate public use.

Transport improvements form another part of the plan. Authorities intend to widen Truong Phap Street and upgrade connecting roads to make the coast easier to reach.

Better road access could benefit residents, tourists, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses. It may also support evening activities and the development of a nighttime economy by improving connections between the beachfront and surrounding urban areas.

However, redevelopment also needs to address the interests of businesses already operating along the coast.

Nguyen Thi Tinh, owner of Lang Bien Restaurant, said local businesses supported the redevelopment but wanted authorities to ensure fair compensation and provide assistance during relocation.

Her comments highlight a key challenge for tourism-led urban development: improving public infrastructure while managing the economic effects on existing businesses. The eventual benefits will depend not only on the quality of the new facilities but also on how effectively the relocation process is handled.

Why Is Quang Tri Extending Beach Improvements to Da Nhay?

Quang Tri’s coastal tourism ambitions extend beyond Nhat Le Beach. Similar improvements are planned for Da Nhay Beach as the province seeks to diversify its tourism products and reduce its dependence on traditional summer beach holidays.

Developing several coastal areas could give visitors more options and encourage them to explore different parts of the province. It could also spread tourism activity across more locations rather than concentrating demand in a single beachfront area.

For tourism businesses, a broader destination offer can create opportunities for accommodation, dining, transport and leisure services. However, the long-term results will depend on the quality of infrastructure, accessibility and the range of experiences available to visitors.

Beach redevelopment is therefore part of a wider strategy to strengthen Quang Tri’s tourism infrastructure and support a more varied visitor economy.

What Is the Proposed U Bo-Thac Chuoi Lake Tourism Project?

Quang Tri is also working to accelerate investment projects intended to broaden its tourism offer beyond the coastline.

One of the major proposals is the U Bo-Thac Chuoi Lake ecotourism, resort and entertainment complex. The project would cover more than 167 hectares and has an estimated investment of over VND 16.2 trillion, equivalent to approximately US$616 million.

Provincial authorities are seeking to begin construction by late October 2026.

The proposed development represents a significant investment ambition for the province. Its combination of ecotourism, resort facilities and entertainment could create a different type of visitor experience from the traditional beach holiday.

A project of this scale could also generate opportunities for tourism services and related businesses if it proceeds as planned. Nevertheless, the construction timetable remains an intended target, and the proposed investment should not be confused with completed development or operational tourism capacity.

If delivered, the complex could complement Quang Tri’s coastal attractions and provide another reason for visitors to spend time in the province.

How Are Rail and Air Connections Improving Access to Quang Tri?

Transport connectivity is another priority in Quang Tri’s tourism development strategy. Better access can help destinations attract visitors, encourage regional itineraries and make it easier for travellers to combine several attractions in one trip.

A heritage tourism train linking Hue and Phong Nha was launched at Dong Hoi Station on 28 August 2026. The service offers visitors another way to explore regional attractions by rail.

The route could support tourism itineraries that combine destinations across central Vietnam, although its wider impact will depend on service arrangements, visitor demand and connections with local attractions.

Air connectivity has also expanded. Sun PhuQuoc Airways began operating flights connecting Dong Hoi with Hanoi and Cam Ranh on 16 August 2026.

The new services provide additional air travel options for visitors and may make it easier to include Quang Tri in domestic travel plans. Better flight connections can also help tourism businesses reach travellers who prefer air travel over longer road or rail journeys.

Rail and air improvements complement the province’s proposed road upgrades. Together, these measures are intended to improve access to attractions, support tourism businesses and make travel within the wider region more convenient.

How Will Cultural Events Support Year-Round Tourism?

Quang Tri is planning additional cultural and entertainment activities to encourage travel outside the peak summer season.

Quang Tri Culture and Tourism Week 2026 is scheduled for 24–30 November, with activities planned at Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Tri Citadel and the Hien Luong-Ben Hai historic site.

The programme is expected to draw attention to the province’s natural, historical and cultural attractions. By distributing activities across different locations, the event could also encourage visitors to explore more than one destination during their stay.

Authorities are considering a further initiative: holding Quang Tri Culture Day on the 24th of every month. Local tourism businesses are also exploring proposals for monthly fireworks displays.

These ideas remain under consideration rather than confirmed recurring programmes. If implemented, they could provide regular reasons for visitors to return and create more opportunities for restaurants, hotels, transport operators and entertainment businesses.

A year-round events calendar can help destinations reduce their reliance on seasonal demand. Regular cultural programmes may also give travel companies more options when developing itineraries and promoting short breaks.

For Quang Tri, the challenge will be to establish events that are distinctive, well organised and supported by reliable transport and visitor services.

What Do Quang Tri’s 2026 Tourism Figures Reveal?

Tourism figures for the first nine months of 2026 indicate continued growth in Quang Tri’s visitor economy.

The province welcomed approximately 9.4 million visitors between January and September 2026, representing an increase of 11.67 per cent year on year.

Estimated tourism revenue reached VND 10.81 trillion, or approximately US$411 million, also up 11.67 per cent compared with the corresponding period.

Overnight visitor numbers increased by 17.1 per cent, while accommodation revenue rose by 17.8 per cent.

The stronger growth in overnight visitors compared with overall visitor numbers suggests that overnight tourism is an important area to monitor as the province develops its offer. The increase in accommodation revenue also points to expanding activity for the lodging sector, although the figures alone do not establish whether the growth resulted from higher room rates, longer stays, greater occupancy or a combination of factors.

The data provide a positive backdrop for the province’s infrastructure and investment plans. Rising visitor numbers and tourism revenue may strengthen the case for improving public spaces, transport links and visitor facilities.

However, sustained growth will depend on more than arrival numbers. The province will also need to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with demand, businesses can adapt to redevelopment and attractions remain accessible beyond the busiest holiday periods.

What Does Quang Tri’s Tourism Strategy Mean for Visitors and Businesses?

Quang Tri’s plans combine several elements of destination development: improved beaches, better roads, additional transport services, proposed resort investment and a broader programme of cultural activities.

For visitors, these initiatives could eventually mean more organised beachfront areas, easier access to attractions and a wider range of experiences beyond the summer season.

For tourism businesses, the plans could create opportunities in accommodation, food and beverage services, transport, entertainment and organised tours. A more varied visitor calendar may also help operators develop products for different seasons and travel interests.

The transition will require careful management. Businesses relocating from Nhat Le Beach need clear information and fair treatment, while major proposed developments must progress through the necessary implementation stages before their anticipated benefits can be realised.

The province’s next challenge is to translate its visitor growth into a well-connected and sustainable tourism offer. Effective coordination between authorities, investors and local businesses will be important to ensure that new infrastructure supports both the visitor experience and the local economy.
