Karnataka is preparing to welcome visitors inside one of its most iconic landmarks — the Vidhana Soudha — by launching guided tours on public holidays. The state government aims to boost tourism and public awareness of its architectural and political heritage through this initiative.

Drawing inspiration from popular public tours of Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Indian Parliament in New Delhi, the move will allow both domestic and international tourists to explore the grandeur and historical significance of the seat of Karnataka’s legislature. The tours will be conducted exclusively on public holidays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., under the supervision of designated officials.

Each group will consist of around 30 visitors, led by an official who will offer insights into the building’s design, its history, and the workings of the legislative process. To participate, visitors must book their slots in advance via an upcoming online platform, pay a nominal entry fee, and present valid ID cards upon arrival. The state tourism department will manage the operations and ensure compliance with security measures.

The decision follows years of interest from the public, many of whom have stood along Ambedkar Veedhi to admire and photograph the majestic structure from the outside. Officials believe these guided tours will offer a deeper connection to the state’s cultural and political legacy, allowing people to experience the building beyond its iconic facade.

Recently, a permanent lighting system was installed at the Soudha to enhance its visibility and appeal after sunset, signaling the government’s broader efforts to make the site a year-round attraction. The guided tours are expected to add a new dimension to Bengaluru’s tourism offerings, alongside its tech hubs and heritage sites.

In the coming months, the tourism department also plans to collaborate with educational institutions to facilitate student visits. These educational tours aim to inspire civic awareness and give younger generations a firsthand look at how democratic institutions function, blending learning with an immersive experience of Karnataka’s rich political landscape.
