Kashmir records 1.8 lakh tourists in March- highest in a decade

Good news from Heaven on Earth! Kashmir has made a record in March 2022.

It’s for the first time in 10 years that the valley recorded footfall of around 1.8 lakh tourists in the month of March, as per the figures available with the Kashmir tourism department.



The department is hoping that the number of tourists will only increase in the coming two months as it will be the peak of summer season in India.

Tourism director G N Itoo stated that Kashmir was visited by 1,79,970 tourists in the month of March 2022, which is a record in the past 10 years.


This is a record number and they are expecting further increase in it. The credit for the record number of tourist arrivals goes to collective efforts of all the stakeholders, he informed.

He further said that the tourism department has also started the first hot-air balloon ride at Zabarwan Park in Srinagar, which is bound to attract tourists.

Not only this, the department is also planning to introduce paragliding at all the major tourist destinations across Kashmir.

Sarmad Hafeez, tourism secretary, said that the department organised a series of roadshows in cities like Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru and Kolkata to attract tourists.


He said, that this year, all the hotels and houseboats are booked for the next two months which is a good sign.

He further said that they expect an increase in tourist numbers in coming months and their aim is offer a unique experience to people visiting Kashmir.

Not only this, the state will also start its annual Amarnath Yatra from June 30 for a period of 43 days.

For the past two years, the yatra had been suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The government is expecting a record number of pilgrims in 2022.
