Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the umbrella entity for Malaysia Airlines, is delighted to share its strides toward enhancing female participation within its ranks. After pledging support for the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 25by2025 campaign in 2021, MAG has not only met but surpassed its goals, now boasting a 34% female workforce.

This growth extends to leadership roles as well; women now occupy 50% of senior management and 44% of middle management positions, highlighting MAG’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and balanced work environment.

The 25by2025 initiative encourages the aviation sector to increase female representation by 25%, or to reach at least 25% by 2025, a goal MAG embraces wholeheartedly.

MAG’s efforts also concentrate on increasing female presence in roles traditionally dominated by men, such as pilots and engineers. From a starting point of zero in 2021, female management pilots have reached 5% by 2024. Similarly, the percentage of female engineers has grown from 6% to 8%, and female technicians from 5% to 8%. These achievements underline MAG’s ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse and equitable aviation community.

Moreover, MAG has launched initiatives like the Women at MAG (W@M) in March 2022, aimed at driving organisational excellence through diversity and inclusion. This initiative focuses on nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and creating a respectful, unified workplace culture.

Lau Yin May, Group Chief Customer Experience Officer and Chairperson of W@M, said, “At MAG, we recognise the invaluable contributions of women to the success of our organisation. We remain steadfast in our commitment to creating an environment where every individual, regardless of gender or background, can thrive and excel in their duties. As MAG continues its journey towards achieving gender parity, the Group remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. By fostering a workplace culture that celebrates differences and empowers individuals, MAG aims to set a benchmark for gender diversity and inclusion within the aviation industry, enabling our workforce to contribute positively to the organisation and the wider communities we serve.”

Aligned with the MAG Sustainability Blueprint initiated in 2021, MAG is dedicated to contributing to socio-economic progress and targeting net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This commitment has led to significant sustainability milestones, including a carbon offset program by Malaysia Airlines, the adoption of electric aircraft tugs, and the publication of detailed Sustainability Reports.

In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Malaysia Airlines will honor women with exclusive offerings at its Golden Lounges at KL International Airport, including special mocktails and cupcakes. Additionally, MAG has released a video tribute to the vital roles women play in the organization’s success, further cementing its commitment to celebrating and empowering women in the aviation industry.
