MGM Resorts International, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under MGM, has announced a collaborative initiative with the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) aimed at promoting water conservation among its over 50,000 employees in Southern Nevada. By contributing a $500,000 grant to the SNWA Water Efficiency Improvement Fund, MGM Resorts is enabling its workforce to access enhanced rebates through existing SNWA programs focused on residential water saving.

“In light of my pledge to the CEO Water Mandate and commitments to water stewardship in the community, I’m proud to announce a half-million-dollar grant that will educate and empower our employees to make a meaningful impact on water conservation,” said Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts. “We’re committed to understanding and addressing local water challenges, and this initiative reflects our dedication to community involvement and water sustainability.”

This conservation initiative will boost awareness and utilization of SNWA incentives for programs such as the Water Smart Landscapes Rebate, the Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate, and the Smart Leak Detector Rebate. Additionally, it promises to distribute water conservation retrofit kits for employees, thereby extending benefits to renters and those not owning homes. Coinciding with World Water Day, the launch will feature a video training course for Southern Nevada employees, detailing the region’s water crisis, MGM Resorts’ contributions, and enhancing awareness of SNWA’s incentive programs.

MGM Resorts has also articulated its Global Water Policy, focusing on water conservation investments and encouraging stakeholders, including employees, to adopt water-saving practices both professionally and personally.

“MGM Resorts continues to demonstrate its commitment to water efficiency within its resort operations, saving billions of gallons over the past decade,” said John Entsminger, SNWA General Manager. “As the largest employer in Southern Nevada, MGM Resorts is taking meaningful action through this grant to encourage more of its employees to participate in effective water conservation programs that enhance the long-term sustainability of our community.”

Further, MGM Resorts has distinguished itself through various water conservation milestones, including being the first gaming and Las Vegas-based company to support the CEO Water Mandate, saving nearly 14 billion gallons of water from 2007 to 2022, converting over 200,000 square feet of grass to desert-friendly landscapes, optimizing HVAC systems to save 70 million gallons of water in 2023, and earning a spot on the 2022 CDP A List for water security.

Through these efforts, MGM Resorts is leading the charge towards an environmentally sustainable future, addressing climate change’s challenges and opportunities, and fostering a culture of innovation to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve climate leadership within the industry.
