MGTO launched “Smart Trip Planner” website and brand-new one-stop mobile app to steer smart tourism forward

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched a “Smart Trip Planner” website and a brand-new one-stop mobile application on 30 November, to enhance visitors’ experience and foster smart tourism development in Macao by optimizing different technology applications in tourism.

In parallel with the Macao Special Administrative Region Government’s strategies to build a smart city and the proposed action plans of the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan, MGTO has progressively unfolded an array of smart tourism projects including three first-stage projects put into service last year, namely “tourism information interchange platform”, “application for visitor insights” and “smart application for visitor flows”.

To deepen the related projects, MGTO now presents a “Smart Trip Planner” website and a brand-new one-stop mobile application. In the past, the Office has launched three official mobile apps entitled “Experience Macao”, “What’s On, Macao” and “Step-Out, Macao”. The brand-new one-stop mobile app is an optimized integration of the three apps, offering a widely-encompassing spectrum of tourism information for travelers.

Leveraging artificial intelligence and open data, the “Smart Trip Planner” website merges smart forecast of visitor flows with public transport information, enabling users with different interests to tailor their own itineraries. A range of information is available including traffic conditions, dining, shopping, activities and level of crowdedness at tourist spots. Not only that, this website presents and recommends a diversity of other information including activities at the vicinity of the planned route, opening hours of tourist sites and travel time between attractions, facilitating itinerary planning by users. The “Smart Trip Planner” website also offers updates including real-time bus schedule and routes, information about attractions which are temporarily closed, etc. Users can conveniently master their trip plans to enjoy an optimized travel experience.

On the other hand, the brand-new one-stop mobile app is equipped with interactive features including online map, locating service, audio guide and so on. The app also chimes with MGTO’s tourism promotion website in terms of the diverse display of travel tips about sightseeing, dining, hotels, What’s On events, Step Out, Experience Macao’s Communities – walking tour routes, among other information. Users can handily explore different tourism facilities nearby and learn about the predicted visitor flows at major attractions. Supported by both iOS and Android, the app is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese and English. Through a click for an update of their installed “Experience Macao” mobile app, current users can obtain the brand-new mobile app.

MGTO continues to evaluate the direction of smart tourism development and probe into the latest technology application in tourism, to map out better plans for future tourism development and enhance visitors’ sightseeing experience before, during and after trips through smart tourism application, towards enhancement of travel quality.
