The station offers frequent rail services throughout the day, with up to nine trains every hour connecting passengers to Cambridge city centre. During the busiest periods, as many as 20 train services are scheduled to stop at the station.

Passengers can travel directly to major destinations including London, Birmingham and Stansted Airport. Those continuing to Europe can also connect easily through London St Pancras, providing convenient access to international rail services.

Four train operators—Greater Anglia, Great Northern, Thameslink and CrossCountry—serve the station, creating multiple travel options for journeys across England.

Easier Access to a World-Leading Medical and Research Centre

One of the biggest benefits of Cambridge South is its location beside the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of Europe’s most important healthcare, research and life sciences districts.

The campus generates approximately £4.7 billion for the UK economy every year and attracts nearly 40,000 people each day, including hospital patients, medical professionals, researchers, university staff and students.

Previously, reaching the campus by rail often required passengers to combine a train journey with local bus services and walking, making travel less convenient. The opening of Cambridge South removes much of that complexity by providing a direct railway station next to the campus, reducing travel times and improving accessibility.

Passengers travelling from London King’s Cross can now complete the journey in approximately 45 minutes on a direct train, making daily commuting considerably faster.

The station also features a rainwater collection system that captures rainfall and gradually returns it to nearby watercourses, helping manage surface water naturally. Through efficient construction techniques and modern engineering methods, the project’s carbon footprint was reduced by more than 22 percent compared with conventional building practices.

Cyclists benefit from approximately 1,000 secure bicycle parking spaces connected directly to Cambridge’s extensive cycle network. Accessible Blue Badge parking bays are available for eligible passengers, while the station’s location beside the guided busway allows easy transfers between trains and local public transport services.
