Montreal economy gets pumped up with $4 Billion tourism spending

MontrealAs per the recent report of Tourisme Montreal, last year, Montreal’s entire performance related to tourism shows that both the business and leisure markets went high. The tourist volume in the city increased 5.1 percent the year before 2017, for a total of 11.1 million travelers. Besides, tourist spending grew 9.7percent to reach $4 billion for the year, in general. In tourism, Montreal recorded the highest growth in terms of all destinations in Quebec.

 
International tourism carried on its upward trend with 11 percent more in terms of overseas tourists visited Quebec last year. As per the Conference Board of Canada, the tourist figures from Montreal, France’s leading market increased by 9 percent, as the number of tourists from China rose 33 percent to make China the second most crucial overseas market in the country, ahead of the UK. In the meantime, Mexico’s inbound traffic increased 50 percent, showing a hopeful market scenario.

 
As far as visitors from the United States are concerned, the most marked growth was seen in airborne travelers with 11.9 percent. As a whole, this market increased by 4.8 percent in last year.

 
Montreal-Trudeau Airport saw 18.2 million passengers which accounted 9.5 percent growth over 2016. The volume is linked to the arrival of overseas travelers at the airport that increased by 13.5 percent in 2017.

 
As per the Hotel Association of Greater Montreal, the average rate in terms of occupation for hotels on the Island was 76.5 percent at an average price of $184.31 in last year. During the summer of 2017, the average room rate was $214.10 (June to August), marking an 11.7 percent hike in comparison to the same time the year before.

 
In 2017, business tourism was equally strong. Montreal organized numerous important events last year, including Destination International’s Annual Convention and the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. Tourisme Montreal’s business travel team saw over 380,000 confirmed overnight stays in different commercial accommodations, which was 15percent more in 2016.
