Morocco’s Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor has welcomed the news of Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup by stressing that the organization of the prestigious tournament could be a golden opportunity for Morocco to boost its tourism sector.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the tourism minister said that hosting the 2030 World Cup is one of the great achievements that will contribute to the country’s development.

Moroccans are extremely proud of hosting the 2030 World Cup, with Spain and Portugal, Ammor wrote.

The Moroccan official also stressed the significance of the global tournament and its contribution to the country’s tourism sector, saying that they are ecstatic about this golden opportunity to take their destiny to new heights.

She said that the Moroccan Tourism Ministry’s vision of doubling tourist arrivals by 2030 is well within reach.

On Wednesday, the FIFA Executive Committee unanimously selected the joint Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

The announcement sparked celebrations among Moroccans around the world, and King Mohammed VI echoed the sentiments of Moroccans by describing the FIFA decision as a welcome acknowledgment of Morocco’s rising status in the world of football.

Traditionally, the World Cup contributes to the host countries’ tourism industry.

The best evidence of this can be found in Qatar, which received more than 1.4 million visitors during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ammor has frequently expressed the ministry’s goal of doubling the number of tourists that tourist arrivals by 2030.

About 10.9 million tourists visited Morocco in 2022, new data from the tourism ministry has shown.

The data presented earlier this week added that the country received 10.2 million tourists by the end of the eight months of 2023.

The figure represents an increase of 49% compared to the same period last year.

These results reflect the significant appeal of our tourist destination and the relevance of our actions in the aviation sector, as well as with tour operators in major source markets, Ammor said in a previous statement earlier this week.
