MSC Cruises has set sail on an ambitious round-the-world journey with the launch of its 2026 World Cruise, marking the start of a months-long voyage that will span multiple oceans and continents. The extended itinerary is being operated by MSC Magnifica, which departed Europe in early January to begin a global circuit designed for travelers seeking a long-form, immersive travel experience.
The voyage officially began on January 5 from Genoa, with additional embarkation points across southern Europe. Over 132 nights at sea, the ship will cover more than 40,000 nautical miles and visit 46 destinations in 33 countries before completing its journey back in Europe in May. The sailing offers guests the opportunity to experience a true circumnavigation, moving steadily westward through a wide range of cultural and geographic regions.
Rather than focusing solely on major cruise hubs, the itinerary has been curated to balance well-known ports with destinations that are less commonly included in world cruises. Seven overnight calls are built into the schedule, allowing guests to remain in port late into the evening and experience cities beyond daytime excursions. This approach emphasizes deeper engagement with local life, from dining and entertainment to cultural exploration.
Following its departure from Europe, MSC Magnifica crossed the Atlantic and entered the Caribbean, where warm-weather ports and historic island capitals set the tone for the journey. The route then continued through the Americas, calling at ports that reflect a mix of coastal scenery, cultural heritage and urban energy. This segment of the cruise highlights contrasts between relaxed island environments and bustling mainland cities.

After sailing north along the Pacific coastline, the ship embarked on a long ocean crossing toward the Pacific islands and the Southern Hemisphere. The Oceania portion of the itinerary includes multiple calls in New Zealand and Australia, destinations known for their natural landscapes, modern cities and strong maritime traditions. These ports form one of the central highlights of the world cruise, offering both scenic cruising and diverse shore experiences.
Asia forms a significant chapter of the journey, with the ship visiting destinations across Southeast Asia and the Far East. This portion of the voyage introduces guests to regions shaped by centuries of trade, tradition and innovation. The itinerary blends established international ports with emerging destinations, providing insight into both historic centers and rapidly evolving cities. Culinary exploration, cultural landmarks and local markets feature prominently during this phase of the cruise.

From Asia, the voyage turns westward again, taking the ship through the Indian Ocean and along the African coastline. This final major segment adds another layer of diversity, exposing travelers to destinations influenced by a wide range of cultural, geographic and historical factors. The route completes the global loop before returning to Europe, concluding a journey that spans nearly half a year.
To prepare for the demands of such an extended voyage, MSC Magnifica underwent a substantial refurbishment during a drydock period in Europe in late 2025. The multi-million-dollar project was designed to enhance comfort, functionality and onboard variety for guests spending more than four months at sea.
As part of the refit, accommodations across the ship were refreshed, and new specialty dining venues were added to expand culinary choices throughout the journey. Public areas were updated to improve flow and comfort, creating spaces better suited to long-term travel. Wellness facilities were also upgraded, including a redesigned spa and an enhanced fitness center to support guest well-being during the extended sailing.
Several larger suites were introduced during the refurbishment, reflecting growing demand for more spacious accommodations on long-duration cruises. Built in 2010, the 2,516-guest vessel has long been deployed on extended itineraries, and the recent upgrades were aimed at ensuring it remains well equipped for a voyage of this scale.
The final itinerary reflects changes made during 2025, when the original routing was adjusted due to regional security considerations. Plans to transit the Red Sea and the Suez Canal were removed, and an alternative passage around Africa was introduced. While the adjustment lengthened the overall voyage, it also added new destinations and additional sea days.
To account for the revised route, the world cruise was extended by 12 days, which were included for booked guests at no additional cost.
With its expansive route, extended duration and upgraded onboard experience, the 2026 World Cruise aboard MSC Magnifica stands as a comprehensive global journey, offering travelers the chance to explore the world in a single, continuous voyage.
